My Yaris 2008 loud noise

Hello everyone! I have a Yaris 2008 and when the a/c or compressor is turn on is making a very loud sounds. It sounds like yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii and clack clack from the passenger seat. The car motor sounds fine. When the compressor is off , no noise is heard. According to most internet site estimates (changing the compressor including the labor ) are between 800-1000 dollars. This is damn expensive. Any tips for expending less money or I'm basically screwed ? Thanks in advance. Please help!

If you want to save money do it yourself. Otherwise, get estimates from other shops if you feel your estimate is to high.

And put in a used compressor, rather than a new one.

Impossible to come on here with that description of symptoms and expect us to make a $1000 diagnostic decision. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone instantly recognizes that sound based on a shared experience.

Take it to a mechanic for diagnostic, and then pick your course of action.
