2015 Yaris made the list
The disappointing dozen: Cars that fail to measure up
http://www.msn.com/en-ca/autos/resea...AA9ZiyO#page=1 Most of the cars on that list belong there but as far as the Yaris goes all that I can say - somebody got it wrong |

. Notice that MPG and reliability are absent from that criticism .

It's a consumer reports list...that means low credibility in my mind.

The Yaris has been ruthlessly bashed ever since its introduction. But we know it's a great little car.

Eye of the Beholder. The Yaris is also officially rated as the most long-term reliable subcompact sold in America. I wouldn't call virtually bulletproof long-term reliability to be disappointing, and there are simple upgrades which can improve the handling/driving/power-band dynamics, such as a rear sway bar, cold-air intake, etc.

CR bases everything off the "right out of the box" approach. Case in point is the fact that the car should have come with a rear sway bar from the factory.

The handling of my Yaris is fine, the seats were comfortable driving from NJ to AK and back in 16 days (10,400 miles) and I have no problem operating the radio!

well based on that logic the Hyundai accent should be on the list. At least my Yaris came with a spare tire...my daughters accent did not....I guess CR did not look in the trunk very good. Maybe the spare was still "in the box" |

Thing is, if you looking at north american market, I think this report is true. The Yaris is offered in really low spec with outdated tech. But I agree, the reliability is the best
In European market at least they getting real hi tech and if you watch european reviews, the Yaris scores well against competitors. Japan market is well spec'd too |

Pretty much, other than the front seats (I'm 6'2, 225 and comfortable) they got it dead on.
The handling is nothing to write home about compared to competitors (fiesta comes to mind), the accleration is slow (and no simple mods are gonna fix this) and the options are few. But its also fairly cheap compared to most of it's competitors, dead reliable (I've changed the plugs and one light bulb since 2008 lol) and gets fairly decent MPG. Toyota does need to do a major model redesign, a new one looks a little different than my 08 model but in reality its the same car so far as I can see. It needs at least a 5 or even 6 speed automatic, a 6 speed manual, and alot more available options for those that want them, not to mention direct injection etc etc to improve power output without killing MPG. Edit: It is pretty loud inside too. When I bought it I thought it was quiet, but things have really changed in the car market since 2007-2008. Most cars have drastically changed, the Yaris has not. All that being said, going back again I can't say I would have bought a different car. 100,000+ Miles, zero issues, 35 MPG. Its a people mover, but nothing more really. |
