Meteopatia
Meteopatia, also known as meteoropathy, is a phenomenon where individuals, especially those with conditions like arthritis or limb injuries, report feeling pain or other symptoms in response to changes in weather conditions such as atmospheric pressure, humidity, or temperature. The term comes from Greek roots meaning "celestial phenomena" and "pain." While anecdotal reports and historical records date back to Hippocrates around 400 BCE, scientific evidence do not conclusively support a direct causal link between weather changes and pain, suggesting there may be perceptual biases involved.
However, research shows meteoropathy can affect psychological and physiological health, with symptoms like muscle and joint pain, mood alterations, and physical weakness. Two types are recognized: primary meteoropathy, which occurs in healthy people experiencing new or intensified symptoms tied to weather changes, and secondary meteoropathy, which affects patients with chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases. The mechanisms behind meteoropathy may involve changes in brain neurotransmitters, hormone levels, and possibly the autonomic nervous system (e.g. vagus nerve). Meteoropathy is more prevalent in women and appears to be increasing, possibly due to modern lifestyle factors like prolonged exposure to air-conditioned environments. pogoda dla meteopatów na dziś |
