Real world fuel useage - example

Just got back from a trip up to New Brunswick Canada in my new Yaris liftback 5-sp (about 800 miles in all). My wife and I, a dog, all our luggage plus quite a bit of food etc, so we were well over 400+ pounds of load - we got 40.2 mpg going up and 41.6 mpg comming home. All travel was with a/c on, 65 to 75 mph on the interstate. Tires were set at 32 cold - car is not fully broken in with only 240 miles on it at the start. Loved the car, thought the ride was better than I expected, handling was sharp. Very happy with it.

nice. i thought it was to go on long drives with a non-broken-in motor? you did mention that you went 65-75 mph. did you vary your speed?

Congratulations on the new car. You'll love it

I've had mine for about 9 weeks and I'm just shy of 6K miles. The Yaris is a great little car. Don't get me wrong, there are days I really miss my Subaru AWD and I'm sure that I'll be missing it even more this winter; but you just can't beat the performance of this little Yaris. My best MPG was 45.6 but my average is probably between 42 and 43. I pumped the tires up to around 40 psi and accelerate with moderation but other than that, I just set the cruise at 70 mph and drive. No modifications (yet) and no fancy driving techniques. At half the price of a hybrid, it really is a fantastic car.
