Well I got mine fixed and it doesn't rattle now. I asked the guy what was replaced or what part he needed and apparently there is a bracket that was redesigned to prevent the cable rubbing.

Despite being an '10...mine had this issue sometimes. Went out this morning and did the ol' ziptie.....problem solved.

Now I just hope Toyota doesn't void the warranty for using an aftermarket tie.

I noticed this noise on mine 2010 LB the other day but didn't think too much about it until I found this thread. I just went out and popped my hood and my cable is just resting against the bracket. I will do the old zip tie fix tomorrow at work myself. I can't help but to wonder what it would take to get my local dealership to fix it under warranty since the TSB only covers up to 2009 models.

If you don't mind cold you pop your hood and see what was actually done to fix it? I am just curious to see if they used some form of zip tie or if they actually replaced a part. The bracket is easily visible from under the hood. thanks.

That is the cable. Check the exhaust heat shield as well, as the cable travels along it, and if any of the mounting screws have pulled through the aluminum it will rattle.

I checked mine and the shift cable was under the wire support and unattached. Close to the exhaust. Is yours like that as well?

I think it makes more sense for the cable to be installed above the bracket, so the support would pull it away from exhaust. I could not move it enough and just zip tied it below the wire support. The access from above the engine was very tight.

Does it look like it's correct now?

Under is correct. The wire support is there to keep the cable from rattling against the underside of the floor. The TSB has you tie it to wire support as is reverse there is enough slack in the cable for it to vibrate against the support and make the rattling sound.

Thanks! There is still some knocking/rattling sound in reverse especially on cold engine. Maybe from somewhere else?

Anyone have a picture of what this looks like from above? I'd rather try to it without jacking the car up.

Also, if i do have to jack the car up, because its too low to crawl under it, where are safe points to use jack stands?

My car is experiencing a rattle noise when I put the shift at D or R and hold the brake. It may not happen at the very first time I start the engine, but it eventually happen for after a few mins.

I opened the hood and have someone hold the brake for me. I saw the engine rattle quite a while holding the brake, compare to another passenger compact car, Versa. I also hear the noise when the engine rattle.

From your guys understanding, is it sound like the situation you guys experienced?
Since it's 2017, I think that won't be covered by Toyota anymore ?

Thanks for any suggestion/advice.

It's a Yaris 2009 btw.

my 2009 sedan AT also has a metallic rattling/squealing type noise when its in D and im at a red light or in a drive through with the brakes applied, if I switch to neutral then the noise stops. could this be related to the same TSB?
