Wow ! thats a quick reply ! I'm trying that right now, I'll tell you if it works in 10 minutes...

I soldered every connections real bad and there's still nothing happening... If my understanding is good all I have to do is get to >40 mph (~60km/h on my canadian car), press the on/off button (with black and red wires) and then press on set, is that it !? If it's a ground problem, can I use a ground wire somewhere to make sure that it's not my connection to the chassis that is bad!? thanks for you help !

That is correct (it's actually >25 mph). Just to clarify, the on/off switch is the one before the resistor and the set switch is the one after the resistor.

By the way, I believe that you are the first Canadian trying this.

For a ground, The bolt that you posted the picture of is a great ground point. You can strip about an inch of insulation off of the wire, wrap the wire around the bolt (under the washer) and crank the bolt back down.

Alright thanks for clarifying this point ! By the way in the meantime I tried to ground it on the battery with a wire going out the window without success... I verified if there was an internal resistance in my switches but there's none... I've been working on it (mostly making trials again and again) for more than 6 hours and I'm actually wondering if something is different on the canadian version !!??

just to be clear, you know you have to have the resistors in place, correct? A simple grounding of the pin 40 wire will not trigger the cruise, you need those resistors wired to the switches...

Yeah I know ! they're under the yellow tape on the 1st picture a few posts above... And I doubled checked for the value of the resistors with the color codes... I just cant find what I'm missing.

okay, just checking :) Anyhow, I would suggest 2 things:

1) Double, triple, etc. check those resistor values. Do you have a multimeter?

2) Check the continuity on your switches (also with a multimeter).

What he said, plus make sure the switches are N.O., not N.C.

I do have a multimeter, and get a 630 ohm reading when I check the resistance at both ends of the resistors with both switches pressed.
The switches must be N.O. because if I dont press on both I dont get any reading. It's the 1st time I'm using a multimeter how can I verify the continuity of my switches??? thanks again

With the switches you should see a high value or OL when they are not pressed and 0 ohms when they are. Or, in circuit 0 when on/off is pressed an 630 ohms when set is pressed.

My friend, you might have found my problem !

- When on/off is pressed i get a 530 ohms reading
- When set is pressed, i get 624 ohms

I have no idea why I get this 530 ohms reading... I might make another set of switches since I have 2 other swithes a lot of resistors...

When in the Ohm setting, did you touch the two probes together and
get 0 Ohms? Just checking to see that the meter is calibrated, which
could throw off your readings.

Yes I did, my multimeter is brand new so its probably well calibrated...

Did you get a chance to swap that switch out? If not, before you do, check the extra switches with the meter to make sure that they're OK.

All,
Thanks to all who have put so much effort into testing this mod. I performed the two switch mod to my wife's 07 Yaris HB with automatic trans. I used a single 670 Ohm resistor, ran the ECM wire on the passenger side through the fire wall where the rear window wash tube goes through and used the ground on the driver's side kick panel. I set up the switches for the two switch mode and before I drilled any holes, I soft wired everything in place and took a test drive.
I could not keep myself from laughing as Dr. Frankenstein must have done... "It's alive! It's alive! I have Cruise Control for less than $10!!! Halleluhah!!!"
Thanks to all for their testing and effort. The entire install took a couple hours but I was very careful about dealing with the ECM connector and the wire routing. Best of luck to all who give this a shot. It is well worth the effort. Nothing like an economy car with some of the whistles and bells of the high dollar land yachts.
Best Regards,
Wyo

To CTScott :
I did check the extra switch with the meter before doing the swap and they were ok (0 resistance when unpressed, high value (1) when pressed)... I did the whole setup again without anymore luck... I just dont get it... If I take the reading at the red and black wire heres what I get when the whole setup is plugged and car is on :

- 0 ohms when nothing pressed (in an earlier post, you said I should get a high value, does that mean that my ground is still bad!?)
- 649 ohms when on/off is pressed
- 0 ohms when set is pressed

In my understanding, in my circuit, pin40 is always grounded when the switches are untouched and is grounded with a load when I press on/off... The set switch has absolutely no effect. I dont understand what I'm doing wrong...

It looks like you have set and on/off reversed. On/off should be 0 ohms to ground and set should be 649 ohms. With how it's wired now, just try pressing the opposite switch and see if it works.

I've already tried that.... And the on/off switch I'm speaking is the one before the resistors and were the pin40 and ground wires are attached...
