Derick,

I just e-mailed you the sky drive link to the install photo book for the G35. It will provide you a great insight to what a top level phot book for an install challenge run would take.

Now, what did you mean in your other post regarding your Yaris not lasting too much longer? Are you going to be getting another vehicle soon?

What was said about the attitude of other competitors is absolutely true. Anyone that tries to deny it is sadly mistaken and/or trying to hide from reality. I've seen it as well at the highest level. Heck, Steve Stern himself made it known that HAT gear wasn't welcome at his shows. That may have died down BUT, it's not forgotten. There's a whole level of petty politics played at the top levels by the small minded people that run and compete. Heck I still have a copy somewhere of Stern's letter to Buwalda basically damning him from MECA competition...over money...

Stay as far away from it as you can Derick. I say this sincerely. Do what you need to do to have fun at the local shows but don't even think of becoming involved with anything bigger. It'll just drag you down, I don't want to see that happen.

Thanks for all the info you sent me Sqcomp, I have one 1st question,

is there any way to be judged by Audio only

and...No I don't want to replace the Yaris, I just said that because it's getting tired and I see a lot of rust, wear and I can see my self changing disk-brakes, shocks and muffler, etc soon.

If I get to go... I'll have fun. for sure!!!

For example yesterday I gave a ride to a kid from church (teenager), once at his house I asked him if he liked music, I told him to seat behind the steering wheel, close his eyes and relax! That I had a special song I wanted him to listen.

I moved to the rear seat and play the song using the remote control of the HU, he was thrilled to the point that at the end of the song he was begging me for a copy.

That's it! he thought it was a magical song that according to him it had the singers and instruments sounds like coming from different places. jj

That was the suggestion.

Absolutely, compete in the two formats but sound only. As someone who has competed, judged and put on sanctioned shows...it'll be less stress on you. Enter ISACA's IQc as an amateur and MECA's SQl Modified class.

What you should do is watch the install presentations if at all possible. If you find that you want to do the presentation for that class, I'll work with you on putting together a photo book and if somehow we can manage, we can practice the presentation to the judge regarding your system.

Thoughts?

I've also been looking at a different project. I really want to get to the racetrack more often. Last night I went to the local drag races and spoke with a few people about their rigs. I'm floating away from the import scene and gravitating to the old American iron. There are lots of cars I'd like to try my hand at. We'll see where these next couple years take me with the military.

I've also been talking with Garm about the Yaris as well. We'll see about building a mill that will do my spirit justice out on the road...

If I can make it to the show, I will go for Audio and skip the Presentation.

Racing it's awesome, of course I race with the Yaris @ 44 MPG
I did enough racing when I was in my 20s LOL

But give me power and I'll be flying!

I wouldn't waste my time or money on the Yaris as a racing platform. Sorry to all the hardcore fanatics out there. I'd spend 20k to get a Yaris engine where I wanted it...the same amount in an 8 cylinder setup is just going to provide more potential.

I'm looking at a 1965 chevy truck 496 cu. in. power glide with trans brake, 513 rearend gear with spool, line lock and some nitrous plumbed in for $hits and giggles. It's set up for the pro street class in drag racing. I have a place to store and wrench on it and it's at a price I can't overlook...

A Guru question...

I've notice that early in the morning the Center Image is slightly to the left and when I come back at the end of the day the Center Image goes back to the center.

It's very little but I can tell the difference and I tweak it back and forth on the road to bring it back exactly to the center...

Is this due to weather conditions, (Humidity, Pressure, Temperature, etc)?

I know some songs have the center image off by a little but I've seen this on specific tracks with Center Image right on center.

Just curious... I'm guessing the atmospheric conditions affect physical aspects of the speakers and so on.

or

My ears and my way of listening changes through the day/night?

That's tough question. I know exactly what you're talking about though.

What I need you to do is to find a phasing track and run it through all of your speakers independently. Make sure your phasing is on before we blame anything else.

A track where you have a voice that is presented in phase and then out of phase.

Don't worry, I'll send you a couple.

D do you have your headlights on in the morning ? And not when you come home ? Maybe heater or ac. Could be experiencing volatage drop. And it's effecting your amp.

I used to think my audio sounded louder at nite than during the day.

Thank you,

I have the one from IASCA, but what do I do? play it with Tweeters only, Mids only, Lows only?

or what's the process?

Lights are on, heating is on or AC all the time but I see the volt-meter at:

14.1 v in iddle

13.9 v cruising

It's not about sound level, it's just the Center Image that moves 2 or 3 inches left or right.

Thanks

The IASCA one is okay but the vocal range of the female isn't the best. You needs make voice track. There's one on a USACi disc.

What you do is play that track through each pair of speakers, muting the rest. It'll take a little while. But switching phase if the speaker sounds out of phase should bring the imaging snap center and raise the stage a little. It's almost a night and day difference.

...the catch? You need to have your speakers level matched off an RTA.i wish I had a day to spend with your car...

I've done that before but without muting all the other speakers and leaving a single pair, I will try that tomorrow.

Now speakers level matched...? is this when you run pink noise and with the EQ try to lower the peaks and level the valleys? while looking at the RTA with the Mic on pilots side (sweet spot)?

Where's your voltmeter connected ?

If you say battery that still isn't what the amps seeing...since you have 3 amps.

You have a 4 channel amp correct ? 2 channels per each side correct ? I'm going to ask a question, if you messed with the gains on one of the L or R channels of that amp...would it move the image ?

P-99 Head Unit comes with a voltmeter. The connection... I don't know.

Yes I have 3 amps.

Gains? it's one gain per channel, right and left together.

On the RTA...

You'll want a pink noise track.

Place the microphone at ear level.

Mute all speakers except one (tweeter for instance).

Get the level on the speaker to read fairly flat across it's listenable major bandwidth on the 1/3 octave.

Write down the levels on each band.

Mute that speaker, then switch to the other side tweeter and repeat.

Match the speaker levels for the pair using the measurements from the first tweeter.

Once those two match, mute them both and move on to the next speakers, repeat the process for all speakers.
