Long weekend @ Laconia NH just relaxing with family.

Last week coming back from work I was thinking what if... I had the port in 2 sections using the 90 degree elbow...
The picture below shows what I was thinking, consider the port to be 3" shorter using the elbow. Today I was playing around with it and it's a really good option,
I still have to figure out how much internal volume is, my guess is that it's pretty close!

We'll see:

Sorry for the crappy cellphone picture :(

^New horns

^New horns. You can see the Hella three tone and the stock horn. No comparing these whatsoever...

Derick...I'll put up some video when I get some shot. Needless to say, these are LOUD!!!

MWAHAHA! These hornblaster horns have netted me one middle finger, and two people ducking like they were being shot at. I also had most people looking AROUND not believing that a Yaris was putting out a sound THAT loud. They were looking for the train in the parking lot...

I won't mess around with them much more (as in prank on people). I had my 15 minutes of fun. These are actually to wake people up when they try to run me off the road...like what happened to me two weeks ago.

I'll be cleaning the air line run up and fitting nicer right angles in with more pipe. I'll get it to look a lot cleaner over the next few months.

Sqcomp That's awesome! Now you are the loudest Yaris in the US, Inside and Outside!

Now I could use some of that in the winter to clear the snow in my driveway! LOL

So here is where the I6SW is for now:

This new option, I think it's a keeper with a smaller foot print and just above the 0.35 cubic feet of internal air, the woofer facing the passenger's side and a straight vent towards the fire-wall:

Some spray 3M super 77 and fleece:

Last night I did 2 more layers on the vertical side and trimmed the edges, so far is gaining weight.

D,

Over the next few months I'll be re-fitting the air lines with better American pneumatic fittings versus the cheap Chinese pieces they gave me. I'll be re-plumbing the direction of the lines...It'll be a bit better and less stressful on the lines.

How is your new a-pillar project doing?

I think I would like to get a pair of used L3 and experiment a little bit in the kick panels or just move the HL-70 down there, seems that the PLDs work better down there.

Any thoughts?

It's very possible if you're using the mids in the doors the kicks would be a nice location. If you get some L3s, my suggestion is to see if you can work your way into the L3SEs. I know that they're a bit expensive but I'll tell you what, the difference between my L4 and the L4SEs was remarkable.

I'm working on the tweeter placement at this point for myself. I'm not in a hurry...yet. I'm also planning a BIG IASCA competition for next year.

Mmm sounds like a Christmas Project L3SEs here we go (soon/someday).

and just to clarify your sentece: "It's very possible if you're using the LOWS in the doors the MIDS in the kicks would be a nice location."

I'm really considering moving the mids to the kicks, PLDs will make more sence (now I understand) and will make my stage wider and push further in the direction of the hood, and be able to play them as a "point source" (from 150K and up) would benefit towards a better image that I have now.

After running my set up for more than 5,000 miles I can tell that having the ability to change from a 2 way to a 3 way (active) in less than 10 seconds (Mute Mids, cross tweeters at 4K, move Lows up to 4K) I can tell the Mids will add some good benefit down there, some times I even can't tell the difference if my Mids are on or not. A slightly difference between 2 and 3 way for me right now is that in 2 way configuration my stage is wider, and when performing in a 3 way highs are quite sharper and after a while my ears get tired. (my commute is over 200 miles/day, so lot's of time to play around)

"I'm wondering what Sqcomp is trying to do with his tweeters? very curious."

It's coming quiet well, besides that I've been very busy with family and other work related issues, I have some pictures of the building process that will post soon, it's getting thick and heavy I would like at least 7 layers of glass, right now I'm up to 4. I really would like to have some more time and get it done rather quickly to start playing with the kicks for the Mids. I was thinking on doing a simple baffle that I could use for the HL-70 that I own but provide the space to swap for the L3(SE's or not) in the near future.

Thanks for asking, it's nice to have a little push of interest from others so I get exited and find time to work more on this project.

D,

You can also kick one of the preouts off on the function screen on your source as well to go two way.

I think that if you do the mids in the kicks and I do the improved A-pillar design, we can compare notes and work out which is best...at least given certain variables.

Oh...and the horns? They pegged out my SPL meter at over 130 dB at 30 feet away. I'm also looking into replacing the horns with some Nathan AirChimes. We'll see what the fundage over the next year looks like. This horn setup is MAGNIFICENT! Totally worth the money.

Also, talk to Scott about some B stock L3SEs. See what he says. If you don't get a good deal, talk to me and I'll figure something out for you.

Yeah, we can do that! I feel very confident and I'm starting to know my limitations and now that I have tried a bunch of configurations I know how to achieve better SQ in a system, and how image, stage and depth creates a front stage.

I'm very curious of what do you have in mind for your new a-pillars! and thanks for asking Scott about the B stock L3SE's, by know I think he knows me. Beside the Mids every other driver I have it's HAT!

Would love to experience the horns, I think I'll put that project in my "to do list" (o:

Gawd...I don't recall. I'll have to ask Scott or poke around our team forum for the answer.
