I am definitely gonna get this car as soon as it comes out. Ive fallen in love ever since i saw it! My dad thinks im much more safer in a motorcycle than this car though... lol

Was your Dad ever a traffic cop pealing kids off the pavement who go into accidents driving motorcycles? My Dad isn't an extreme guy, but he never let me on a motorcycle until I was in University for that reason!

It's statistically proven that smaller cars are safer than SUVs and the hypothesis as to why is that it's easier to avoid hitting or getting hit when you're smaller and you don't have an over inflated opinion of your own safety in a sub compact either. While some of that logic applies to a smaller vehicle like a motorcycle, if you get hit on a bike, you're pretty much toast.

There are tons of resources on the internet about this on reputable websites. If your Dad is open to hearing opinions different than his own, you'll have him convinced in no time. I typed SUV less safe into google and got results like this:

...and we all know how irresponsible bigger cars are for use of resources. Such a waste and waste inevitably leads to problems for us all.

When Toyota first brought out the IQ there was a lot of backlash over the $17,000 price tag. Toyota said it was a premium city car and the reviews were saying, "This interior isn't premium.". I've seen the target price tag is $12,000 now for the US model. It would have been stupid to bring out a car to compete with the Smart and then price it above the competition and drive customers to the Smart.

Toyota is also going to get into the developing nations auto competition too and is saying they have a $5,000 car in the works to challenge the Indian Tata (or whatever they're calling it now).

The coolest thing to me is it's small footprint. Even in mildly crowded places like Toronto, a smaller car is a godsend. Never mind some places like Boston, Europe or the king of all crowded places... Japan.

This car is a viable smart car, but it is over priced, unless it's of much higher quality build than the Yaris.

I had to park my Tacoma in Downtown Boston several years back.... that was not much fun. I got sick of getting stuck in places in Toronto by motorists who park too close. No issues so far in the Yaris, but I would love a truly small car like the iQ.

Having driven in mid-town Manhatten I can see why many don't even own a car. It can only be described as controlled chaos. We were walking near Central Park and I got to looking at the bumpers of parked cars. All of them had at least some marks and dings.

I've yet to go to New York, but I too am in this boat. I wouldn't own a car if I didn't have to have one. Japan car sellers are facing a huge problem now where young people aren't buying cars, because they don't need to. The Japanese mass transportation system is nothing short of amazing and trains and subways are on time to the second or they give you a note to excuse you from being late to work.

I have a passion for cars and for driving, but I'd love to save the thousands of dollars a year wasted on vehicle costs and put that towards a vacation or home.

Well looking at the couple of crashes that have already happened with fellow yaris owners. The cars were .. pretty totaled, but the people came out just fine.

They're designed to do that. The body of the car absorbs the impact (instead of your body), and as a result is all crumpled up.

Car and Driver's First Drive Review

...The models to be sold in Japan and Europe include a 67-hp, 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine and a 1.4-liter diesel, both shared with the European and Japanese Yaris. Later, the iQ will get a new 1.3-liter gasoline four-cylinder, the engine that will power the U.S.-bound iQ. That 100-hp engine should allow the 1900-pound iQ to deliver fuel economy of about 40 mpg. Eventually, the 1.3-liter will find its way into other Toyota products, as will the iQ’s platform, which is expected to underpin the next Yaris....
