Odd backseat project?

Has anyone ever tried to convert backseats to 2 pilot seats instead of the bench? or maybe is there a bench conversion kit to have a bench divided by storage space (kinda like the backseat of an early 90's prelude)?

like this

That looks like it would add weight, something not very desirable for the Yaris.

Plus, I don't understand the necessity. What do you gain from it? It removes space from an already compact car, as well as the ability to use the rear folding seat. Unless you are hauling third and fourth passengers long distances, I just don't see the point...educate me!

Cheers! M2
