The .45 caliber round makes a pretty big hole, I can just imagine how the conversation went:

I saw a Lieutenant pull off the same trick with his M4 carbine in Iraq. The big difference was that the .223 cleared his toes and left him unharmed--but possibly in need of new underwear.

^Not hardly...especially one who can't figure out his ass from a hole in his boot. That officer is GONE from command.
He can lead YOU if you're so hard up for an idiot. If someone is stupid enough to put a bullet through his foot, he does deserve a smack...and to be relieved of command for utter and absolute stupidity and lack of safety around himself and his soldiers. I'd be the first to sign a sworn statement against whoever did something like that...regardless of rank.
