Where are all the Yaris?
Drove from Montreal to Tampa, have been here a week and as yet i havent seen a single Yaris on the trip so far.. Coming from Montreal where every second car is a Yaris its very odd that the car is not more popular here in the states.Did they just not market the product in the USA ?As i see plenty of similar sized small American made cars.

On the West Coast, I see Yaris pretty often. There's quite a bit of owners on the East Coast. I'm sure if you give it a little more time, you'll see plenty. As for the marketing Yaris in the states, I have yet to see a commercial about our cars, but that may be because I don't watch tv more than twice a month. I believe I read somewhere here on the forums that the Yaris, as opposed to something like the Corolla, doesn't give Toyota a huge net profit.

I see them all over where I live, but it's still only 1 in 100 or more cars. Toyota doesn't put any funding into advertising the Yaris because the profit margin is so low, and people who want the least expensive car from Toyota know where to go to get it (the dealership). There was a commercial series featuring Michael Showalter, but it wasn't very compelling-- "Yaris, it's a car!"

Here in Savannah I hardly see any. I see more Sedans than Liftbacks. Those who have them, do not seem the type to do any modifications let alone will probably never get on a yaris forum. Most just have the car for cheap and reliability and nothing more

I see 10-15 sedans and 6-10 hatchbacks every day during my commute.

Quebec has always had a love affair with small hatches. Trecel, Echo, Yaris have all been strong sellers there. Very European in automotive mindset, and no surprise that you come from the highest per-capita concentration of Yaris in North America.
During the '06 to '08 height of Yaris sales, Quebec was gobbling them up, while State-side it was seen as a quirky oddity. This was also still when American appetite for subcompacts was weak. Now that they are hungrier for small hatches, Yaris sales have tanked since '09, while other manufacturers have introduced more feature rich offerings in the segment.

seen more and more the last year or so in Maine, but still not many comparatively speaking. The biggest issue I think here is that because they are Toyota they have high resale value so dealerships are slow to move them and then the fact that most Toyota dealerships have a poor reputation for crappy customer service in the Northeast. This is my experience anyway.

I have seen more and more in Ohio..but not a lot. It may be due to the fact that I never see a Toyota ad pushing the Yaris...mostly Corollas and Camrys.

I've seen about a 1/2 dozen or so in the foothills of the Appalachians here, thought it's a good number of them considering the amount of traffic here...(basically no traffic)

Well back in the day when I drove an MG Midget...late 1970's, whenever I passed another Midget the thing to do was a flash of the lights. Now, you never see one of those on the road. I paid $500 for my 69 in 1977. Now they go for starting at $7000. Could of, would of, should of. Remember this when they stop making the Yaris!...hint hint.

I hear ya...I get a kick out of how bikers always greet each other on the roadways, but it doesn't seem like anyone else does. People think that I am boob for being a die hard Yaris guy.

Well Bronsin, I've never seen anyone waving as I'm driving buy so I guess we don't cross each others paths.
I don't see many either. |

There are three, including mine, in my townhouse complex...
I see the sedans often. More so probably because I have one myself. Hertz rental car was using them as rental cars as I noticed yesterday. Damned good & reliable car this is.

I usually see 1-2 a day on my drive to/from work, but the Yaris is nowhere near as popular in the States as it is in other countries. I was just in Germany and Okinawa, and saw tons of them. Americans in general are just not big into economic subcompacts, but I do get a lot of positive comments about mine.
If the price of gas ever went up dramatically, the Yaris would get a lot more popular! Oh, by the way I wave too! My biggest problem is remember what I am driving (i.e. I wave to Yarii in the Jeep, and at Jeeps in the Yaris!). And having six vehicles at our house means it always looks like someone is home (usually because someone is!). It's a good tactic where everybody has at least 1-3 vehicles parked outside, but the street is almost deserted during the day (except for our house). Cheers! M2
