August 2015 Yaris Sales: Up
August 2015 Yaris sales were up yet again, this month to the tune of 64.1% vs. August of 2014. Year-to-date Yaris sales are also up 53.5% vs. this time in 2014. This marks the ninth straight month of increased sales for the Yaris compared to the previous year.

I can't believe that the Nissan Versa and Kia Soul sold 15+x more units in August, 2015 and 6-7x YTD. Even the fugly fugly Honda Fit has sold about 3x more YTD in 2015.
Personally, I think Toyota should build a more basic (and cheaper) L model (crank windows, etc.) and a more upgraded (and pricey) SE model that attracts subcompact-segment enthusiasts more (that means more horsepower, etc.). Create more distinctive differences between the L/LE/SE trims to appeal to Versa/Mirage bargain-hunters and small-car 'hot hatch' enthusiasts alike. - Last edited by Kalispel; 09-02-2015 at 02:15 PM. |

Hey, the "Final Toyota Edition" 2015/2016 Yaris refinements finally convinced me to purchase a 2015 SE manual-5spd, instead of going with either a 2009-2012 Yaris Sedan (Automatic) or a 2012-2015 Manual 6-Spd Acura ILX. Love it or hate it, it will be the last (and most tweaked) incarnation of a "True Toyota Yaris" before Mazda takes over production of the all-new "Yaris" in 2017.

Any idea if 3dr, 5dr hatch, and sedan trims will be available? AFAIK, the Mazda 2 was only ever available in the US as a 4dr hatch. |

Considering that the 2016 Yaris Sedan in Canada (and Scion iA here in USA) is a 99% straight re-badge of the 2016 SkyActiv Mazda2 Sedan (which isn't going to be sold in the USA), I would be greatly greatly surprised if the "new" 2017 "Yaris Hatchback" for the USA/Canada was anything other than a 99% straight re-badge of the 2016 SkyActiv Mazda2 Hatchback (also isn't going to be sold in the USA) - made in the same plant down in Mexico.

Mist definitely in my opinion. The new looks in the 15 Yaris is quite striking. In my opinion, it's the best it's ever looked, and I had an 11. Very European. Probably one of the best looking Toyota's out there today as a matter of fact. Styling is not usually done very well at Toyota. The FJ was a real looker though. And the new Tacoma doesn't look too bad.

Compared to many of its competition, the Yaris is a fairly slow seller. However, it is selling better than last year!

Luckily I usually buy 4-5 year old used cars, so by the time I am ready for a new car, I can probably pick up a 2014 or 2015 Yaris.
I suppose I would consider a Mazda 2 or possibly a Honda Fit (If I could get over the minivan look). Will the Mazda 2 ever be sold in the US? |

Mazda decided to pull the new 2016 Mazda2 from the U.S. Market at the last moment (probably due to horrible sales of the 2011-2014 Mazda2), and focus their resources on the exploding mini-crossover market via their new CX-3 (which is built on the new Mazda2 platform).
The CX-3 is sure to be a hit, just like the HR-V has been for Honda. Sales of normal hatchbacks and sedans in the U.S. are dropping across-the-board for everyone, in favor or more SUVs, Crossover type vehicles, and Trucks. Even popular, top-tier sedans like the Honda Accord have taken huge hits in sales this last year (I think they were down by nearly 20%). - |

And Mazda said they weren't bringing the redesigned Mazda 2 to America with the low prices of gas. They don't think they'd make a decent profit. Mazda makes pretty good little cars, but I'm happy that I got my 15 Yaris before they take over Toyota's job on the Yaris, which is absolutely ridiculous in the first place. I'm not paying Toyota money for a Mazda. I'm just not. |

I like the idea of a small SUV, but the worse gas mileage and higher price tag all keep me away. The difference between the Chevy Sonic and Trax (same frame) is $6,000. That's ridiculous. All for bigger tires and higher up off the ground. The interior space is pretty much the same.
The Honda Fit sells like hotcakes though.... |

And the current Fit is so homely with all those lines.
