yaris replace clockspring-remove airbag
Hi
Everyone iam new on this forum and i registrated because i have a problem with my 2009 yaris 1.0 My horn isnt fucntion anymore ,and i highly suspect the clock spring. I already tested the horn itself and the relay and they both work fine. On YouTube there are some videos of how to replace the clockspring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuTS1Ac5D4E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUapQVygKRU While in the video it looks easy , how ever icant get my airbags off. In the videos the remove the airbags by some toorq screws on the side , however my steering doesnt have those on the side. So i dont know how to get the airbags off, in order to replace the clockspring. Anyone has an idea of how to remove the airbags from yaris 2009 |

Can you post a picture of your steering wheel from the front and the sides?

its a pain .. There are no screws just some safety wire locks that need to be pushed out of the way. Inwill try to find the tech doc procedure for you .

Might be worth a phonecall to your local dealer and see if the clockspring recall applies to your car, and if it has been done. Might get the thing replaced for free.

Thnx ! so it are like pins i have to pull, like also described in the DIY Cruise Control for 2012 Yaris - http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37205 But i find it very strange because mine yaris is from 2009, and every 2009 yaris manual described the torq on the side. While mine wheel/airbag is mounted like the 2012 versions. |

Hi guys
Here an update, I was able to push te first spring to loos the top of the airbag. So when i was able to lift the airbag a bit , i saw the real problem of my non function horn. The wire had a lost connection to the connector. So i had to solder the wire to the connector again. That should be a 5min job however it was like impossible to complety remove the airbag even ipulled 2n en 3th spring it wouldnt get loose! Son while there was a small openning because the first spring was loose, it had to be surgery work to solder the wire to the connector again While with the right tools it worked out for me i was just able to solder the wire to connector again and so my horn working again ! So it wasnt the clockspring me , but now i pray my clockspring will never fail because replacing a clockspring will be very hard because of i wasnt able te remove the airbag. But thank you guys for the great tips and trics. |

am looking for a little advice for a diy project on my Toyota Yaris 2009 hatchback 5 door
My question is....I need to check and possibly replace my clock spring...my cruise control is not working and I already had a machine read the system and it didnt find a problem so the mechanic suggested it was the clock spring...which makes sense because when I turn the wheel I can at least get the cruise control button to turn on the cruise control light but I can't get it to actually work.....I also already tried replacing the cruise control switch itself. I read you can diagnose the clock spring yourself with a multimeter after you unplug the airbag and replacing it should be diy friendly unless the steering function is connected to the clock spring, then you need to have that programmed with a machine. I am also trying to find the repair manual and wiring diagram for it if anyone knows of a free source or has it. Tia, Lena |

I saw there is a video how to do it but it doesn't specify hatchback 5 door...and I also just want to make sure I have a very thorough idea of how to do it properly
