Stock Engine Swap
A few months ago I fried a piston ring and combined with a few other issues I've decided it's time to drop the supercharged engine and drop in a used engine from a junkyard.
So starting this evening I'll be swapping the engines. This isn't really going to be a DIY guide but I will try to include as many pictures and details as I can. Any advice ahead of time will be greatly appreciated as I have never undertaken a task of this size before. But even in times of great despair, with losing the oh so much fun supercharger, there is room for improvement. I'll be upgrading a few things to the new(used) engine. I'll be throwing on a Fidanza light weight flywheel ($298 from autoplicity), a Clutch Masters FX200 clutch ($447 also from autoplicity) , and a K&N performance intake ($298 again from autoplicity). I got a great deal on the engine thanks to a friend who works at a shop who sold me a used engine from a junkyard to the chime of $575. It even came with a wiring harness (which is great since I hacked up my original to install the supercharger) and almost every necessary sensor and stock bolt on. The only things it did not come with was an alternator, A/C compressor, and starter. Not a big deal though as I intend to go without A/C to reduce parasitic power loss, the starter I can take from the old engine as it is still in good working order, the only thing I was upset about was the lack of an alternator. I think my original alternator may be on it's way out. Soooooooo stay tuned. |

The car sat for a couple years and I didn't have the motivation nor the time to service the car appropriately so I let a shop do the dirty work for me, but unfortunately they put stock no gapping required plugs in instead of the NGK iridium's 2 step colder plugs I instructed them to. Honestly I was rooting for something to go catastrophic so that I'd have a "good excuse" to throw a new engine in and then have an engine to rebuild Caliyaris style.

Why not try the 1.8 2ZR-FE motor found in the Matrix/XD?
I was talking to a guy on here that did the swap recently and apparently it just bolts in; the wiring is minimal, maybe 4 or so. |

If I didn't need this car as my daily then perhaps I'd swap in a different engine like the 2ZR. But with commuting 100 miles a day M-F I'd like to keep the focus of the new(used) engine for optimal fuel efficiency and reliability.

So you are going to remove the compressor unit and everything to drop down to a smaller belt then?
