Yaris Cattle Guard for the GhostTurd
I almost hit a coyote on the way to work last fall and thought to myself, "Boy, this would spell doomsday for the GhostTurd."
I did this with the following tools: Drill, welder, chopsaw, angle grinder, plasma cutter (although you could get by with other), and of course, paint. It is very solid, supported at 4 points. I'm new to this site but have done several fun modifications to the car to make it more comfortable and safe to drive. If there is a lot of interest in the cattle guard, I can post some more pictures and explanations. |

Definitely post pics. There has been quite a bit of interest on doing something like that.

I hit one of those damn things in my Yaris. It broke the lower grill and cracked the bumper cover below the lower grill. I also had to replace a handful of those little push-pin retainers.
It was a lot less damage than I expected. I was running 60mph at the time. |

Yaris Cattle Guard for the GhostTurd
I'd posted this in the tech section but thought it could benefit someone here. I nearly hit a coyote one morning with the Ghost Turd so this was the solution. It took about 45 hours start-to-finish and is very solid.

Now put some big round foglights in the cattle guard and make it look like a rally car.

More pictures of the GhostTurd cattle guard
All of the bends are done with a chopsaw, welder & angle grinder. Tedious.
The trickiest part is building your grommet mounts. You have to buy slightly longer metric bolts with which to replace the bumper mounting bolts because your grommets (what you see sticking out of the plastic bumper cover) have a 1/4" base that require more bolt shank. I just used a generic holesaw & drill to get the 2nd bumper hole made (the driver side). The passenger hole is already there for your tow hookup. If someone is really serious about building one, I can put the car back on the rack and take some pictures of the underside for the lower supports. Without solid under-support, this would only be for decoration. |

I am very impressed with the fabrication technique for achieving the bend. Some serious work went into that.
