Please post a picture of a DIY cruise stalk with the horn-to-cruise wire installed
Can someone please post a picture of a DIY cruise stalk with the horn-to-cruise wire/stalk installed? I want to see exactly where I'm supposed to run all the wires I ordered (minus the ECM one - found that one already.)
ALL the DIY's are missing this crucial step to the install for an '06-'08! Thanks a bunch! |

Cruise - Steering Wheel.jpg Here's what the steering wheel side connector (V1) of the spiral cable looks like: Cruise - Conn V1.jpg Here's the other side - Connector D3. Someone who recently installed a cruise stalk on an 07 or 08 said that for them D3 only had one pin besides the horn pin. This picture is from Crashy, who is an 08 and has all three pins: Cruise - Conn D3.jpg If yours only has two pins on D3 and V1, then you will just connect one of the stalk wires to other pin (and again leave the horn wire in the same pin). You will then ground the other cruise stalk wire to one of the screws into the steering wheel frame. |

Thanks alot Scott, exactly what I was looking for!
The write-ups should include this info (and the D3 one-pin or three-pin issue), as it is very vague in all of them. Usually only a mild reference to grounding is made. |

EDIT:
Nevermind, I got where the connector is located. Next question... Where's that damn write-up of the ECU connector (and how to insert the pin)? Last edited by firemachine69; 09-29-2010 at 05:15 PM. |

Found it, was hiding in the PDF file.
I can't seem to find the instructions related to inserting the pins into the white D3 connector. I can see where the connector is (will make a better tutorial later for situations like mine), just want to deal with this two-pin or three-pin situation in my DIY (FYI, the clockspring and connector under the steering wheel both have three pins... And I have an early '07). Last edited by firemachine69; 09-29-2010 at 07:09 PM. |

To add the pins to D3: 1. Release the lock by prying it up with a small screwdriver (it only lifts about 0.5mm): Conn D3 - Release Lock.jpg 2. Insert the pin as shown: Conn D3 - Insert Pin.jpg |

Now... This may seem a little looney... But how exactly did your horn wire/connector end up on a laminate table?
Does the order of the wire matter as well? (I mean, beyond the basic fundamentals that the connectors I'm inserting have to connect to a pin... duh. ) And yes, the two-pin must be a mistake. Mine is an early-build from '07, so I can't see why someone's down the line wouldn't have it. |

And, on the order, it actually doesn't matter which connects to which on the stalk. |

I liked your first reason better. I figured as much. I'm perplexed as to how this thing works, I mean, internally to the ECU. How does it recognize the difference between on-off, set-resume with just one wire (ground doesn't count)? |

The wire to the ECM is being looked at with respect to ground. The ECM measures the voltage drop on the pin, which varies from 12V (with no buttons pressed) down to 0V, when the on/off button is pressed. The resistors between the other switches produce voltage drops between the two end points. |
