After AFE intake install: Check Engine light. Please help.
Just installed AFE intake. 20 miles later I got the check engine light. Saw in a previous thread some one said the MAF sensor is not hooked up right then but the poster never replied and said it work for him. Can any one give a list of what to do and tell if this has worked for them please. I will be trying to figure this out tomorrow.
Thank you.

I had something similar happen when I installed my intake. Try checking all your connections and that there are no leaks, especially near the MAF. If everything checks out ok, try resetting the ECU by pulling the ECU fuse and turning the key to on for a few minutes. Put the fuse back, and start 'er up. Alternatively you can disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute or two.
Either way, when I reset my ECU, it got rid of the check engine light.

If you installed it with the MAF gasket, take the gasket off. That worked for mine.

Adjusted some clamps, loosened and retightened all clamps.
Checked, engine light still on. Uninstalled and reinstalled MAF, and gave it a little more slack by disconnecting a cable tie down. Checked, engine light still on. Then I unplugged the negative cable for two minutes and reconnected it. Checked, engine light is off. True test will come over next couple days driving. Thanks I hope it stays off. :-)

Fingers crossed for ya. Probably was a MAF leak as that is usually the most common culprit.
You should have disconnected the battery first as that is what cleared the code. Then proceeded with your trouble shooting. Fixing an issue does not clear a code on its own.

Check engine light came on a week later. I took off maf gasket then and restarted computer by neg term disconnect. Light stayed off for one day then it came on again. The next day I start car and light is magically off already. Should I spray ether at connection points and listen for revving?

I had the same issue. i had to do something drastic and made sure there's no air leaking through the maf hole. I REALLY dont recommend it, but i had a few mafs in my house and used sealant.
I loved the intake design, except for that one stupid maf mounting flaw. Also check if the metal cylinder part where you screw into isn't loose or coming out of the molded plastic. if it is, epoxy or superglue that cylinder in. |

This problem happens most when I have cruise control on and I'm going uphill at anywhere from 45 to 65 mpg.

If any air at all is getting in between the maf and throttle body the unmetered air can cause CEL issues.

Hey guys, I got a new tube for free when I complained to AFE. Since I'm still having the problem (although it randomly comes and goes) I am gonna install it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello, Well that last tube they sent me was the wrong one. They've sent me a third one with a gasket too now.
BUT - when I was waiting for the newest one I removed the white spacers that where originally provided. These held the MAF up and out of being flush in the tube's hole. That was January 1st. It took about a week for the light to turn off after doing that, and the light has stayed off ever since AND I'm noticing better gas milage by two miles better. ... so I havn't even thought about installing any of the newest stuff they sent me, not unless the light comes back on. Is anyone still checking this? Cause I'll keep you posted. I look at this as an experiment now.

I can't remember if I took out the washers too. If they were in the same place as the white spacers then I probably did. I did this because it sealed the opening where the MAF fits into better. The MAF body sits flush against the tube when you do this. Here's what happened. The light stayed off for about a week and a half, then came back on ... I left it alone and it turned off in about three or four days by itself. Next it stayed off for like a month, then it came back on for like two days. Then it stayed off for like a month and a week and came back on for less than a day. It's been off since. I think it is working fine. I don't know if it needs to adjust itself, but I think that it is reaching a point of hysterisis or something.

are you still keeping track of your gas mileage? You are the second person to report better gas mileage after adding an intake, makes me want to get one, but i have no idea about that type of thing.

I installed an afe intake with no instructions and using the tips Goliath gave you. I have had it for like 2500 miles or more and no CEL.
