2014 Yaris Changes
Seems like it was just the beginning of 2013!
What do you guys want to see on the 2014 Yaris? Here is a wishlist: 1) Rear doors of the Yaris should have the same soft-grey/white padding as the dash and front doors. 2) Wheel liners/wheel well noise insulation. 3) Bluetooth phone controls on the steering wheel (at least on the SE). 4) Better-looking hubcaps on the LE (the ones on the 2012-2013 are aerodynamic, I know, but they don't look modern!). 5) Variable intermittent wipers on at least the SE! 6) Get rid of the dash rattles from the loose wires! 7) Rear door pockets! Never enough storage! 8) Front armrest for passenger and driver (maybe a console box with lid! ). 9) Option for Entune/Navigation/Display Audio! (Just a matter of ripping one from the current Corolla!). 10) Anything else you can think of? |

Oh, hardly. Programmable intermittent wipers for instance is something that's been around forever, and when I was driving VWs, from 1984 models through 1997 ones, all it took to upgrade from non-intermittent to intermittent ones was inserting one relay, and upgrading from those to programmable ones was inserting a different relay. And the loose wires? Grab a few zip ties ;)

new tech. an entire new redesign of the entire car, especially the engine and transmission taking into account all the new technology to make the engine more efficient, powerful, and the transmissions better.
Using the same old stuff from the original echo works for only so long.

If they could just take reduce the dash rattles I'd be happy! Every day, it seems, there's a new rattle somewhere.

Definitely would like to see a new/updated transmission, like the six speeds everyone else is using. I would prefer the front of the Yaris to be less beak-like. Push it in a little bit and cut out some of the overhang. Add some colors! Blue and grayscale are so bland. Move the USB/AUX out of the glove box and closer to the radio and then add a radio-side cubbie for easy storage.

1) A six speed manual with a whole lot less whine than the current 5sp box. Even a quieter 5sp would be an improvement.
2) Hinged, pop open rear side windows on the L model, actuated from the center console. 3) An on-off switch for the hatch light control, ie hatch open - courtesy light off. 4) Diesel engine. 5) Courtesy ear muffs to quell the myriad of rattles. 6) Lower roof profile. |

there is an easy way to defeat the light in the hatch. Take it out.

What do you need it for? I took my light out maybe 4 years ago now, and not once have i even used a flashlight back there.

...why do you need it?
the darkness can be quite unhelpful when searching for the tire changing tools on a wet windy cold dark unlit road after swerving to a halt on a tire pierced by deer antlers while the missus mutters "we're all going to die out here in this wilderness." Opening the hatch floor cover effectively blocks any light from the front courtesy light. The hatch also controls this courtesy light located above and between the front seats. That bugger at least has a switch. The light located within the hatch compartment is solely controlled by the position of the hatch door and the connection to a power source. No switch, should be one. An oversight IMO. I had a Pathfinder prior to the Yaris. The hatch glass could be left open on the warm days to help cool the interior, a feature enjoyed immensely and often. And the interior lights could all be switched off individually when the hatch was open. With the Yaris L it's all or nothing, the rear glass is all fixed. Still, I must admit the Pathy achieved 17MPG on the best of days so I can live the Yaris hatch light issue. 7) a more voluminous airflow from the heater to the floor around the drivers feet would also be appreciated. It seems weak as it is. |
