What exactly can you fit in the back of your Yaris Hatchback
I'm telling you...I love this car. Good on gas; fun to drive...not to shabby looking and I can fit my supra block; spare oil pan; 2 KVR rotors and tranmission in there...along with my Luggage and laptop(just came back from a trip to Michigan when I picked up that block yesterday):
For my parts runs to the US I've had it loaded all the way to the roof line + filled the roof rack...little motor still pulled pretty strong: PLUS 20 Supra Iron Drum Big Brake kit Adapters + personal shopping + luggage (pix taken at my sisters in Michigan). I had to remove about 6 drums as she was rubbing juuuuuuuuust a little too much This car has saved me many many times...with a one car garage and 2 Supra's I really couldn't afford a daily driver + part hauler. I'm still amazed at the amount of stuff you can fit in this little tiny car. I wish I didn't have to use it to haul parts as she gets a little dirty but not much I can do about that now other than clean it as often as possible What about you guys? Anyone else haul some serious stuff with their Yaris? |

I've fit a 2.5L turbo chrysler motor, with transmission, axles, and intercooler along with enough gear for two people (along with the two people) to live for a week, two small dogs. My last move, I packed the car to the roof, and filled every nook I could, even the front seat. Still managed to get over 43mpg to boot!

For our family vacations to Montreal or Quebec City and back, I have managed to fit luggage and food for a week for a family of 3. (plus the family, of course) Not to mention laptop and video games for my son, extra pillow and more for the wife, and so on.
All this in a 3 dr hatch that managed to do 47Mpg from Montreal to the border, and 42Mpg from the border to the NH/MA line. (fully loaded and AC on) A surprising amount fits in the spare tire well (laptop, spare sneakers) and under the front seats (books, CDs, raincoat) or in the various compartments. (Nintendo DS & cartridges) Right now my mountain bike is in the back so I can fit in a quick ride at lunch. Although I have a hitch mounted rack, I have managed to put both my own and my son's bike in the back with helmets, water, and gloves. (and some room to spare) |

Haven't tested the water as much as I'd like to. So far, the biggest item is my German Shepherd. He's fairly comfortable and stretches across the back on long trips.
One thing that wasn't as big but weighed the most was my Brother MFC-9440cn laser printer. The car didn't even flinch.

No car parts, but I have put 10 -12 fifty pound bags of dog food in the Yaris before without any problems at all. Dog crates are in there all the time. 2 regular size and 4 really small ones with no problems, plus paperwork, laptop and more.
Havent had the Great Pyrenees in there lately and she is now over 100 pounds, but I am sure she could stretch out just fine. Everyone is always amazed at the stuff I can fit in my car. |

58" long table, (think it was 36" tall too, and 23" deep) Yep.... that was a very tight squeeze for passenger + driver.
Two 50x14x12.5" tall stereo speakers. a bale of hay 2 full size bikes the LB can hold a lot... i'm glad I did not get the sedan. |

haha that's freakin awesome. i remember the day i was transporting my 1nzfe shortblock in my xA.. it rolled forward into the passenger footwell in a panic stop on the way to the shop... i stopped at the light, opened the rear drivers side door and picked up the block.. walked to the hatch, set the block down and opened the hatch up. put the block back in the spare tire-well. the guy behind me actually got out of his 7series and said "hey did your engine fall out???"
hatchback LOVE!

The thing that gives me the heebie-jeebies about carrying stuff like that in a hatchback is that if you hit something, you're dead. I knew a young guy who got hit head on at a fairly low speed on a college campus with a cinder block in the back of his car. (It was winter and snowy.) The block hit him in the back of the head and smashed his skull, killing him instantly.
The seats in a sedan might not stop something heavy in a trunk, either, but it'll be at a lower height and will be restrained somewhat. |
