Synthetic Oil Cocktail
I needed to change my oil. (10K miles) I had 2 qts of Amsoil 0W-30, 1 qt of Mobil-1 0W-30, and 1/2 qt of Mobil-1 5W-30 laying around. I used a Napa Gold filter and in went the oils. It seems to run just fine, but I wanted some input from y'all on this. The 5W-30 was about 4 years old but was kept inside my house.
BTW - I overheard the Napa guy tell a customer to wait 'til you get 30K miles, then switch to synthetic oil, but you can never go back to conventional after that. LMAO! I wanted to ask him some more questions about synthetic oils but I was in a hurry. My brother was with me, being an ex-mechanic he was interested as well in what BS this guy was spreading on the subject. Where do they dream this stuff up?

As long as we're talkin about oil. I'm comin up on my first oil change as well. I don't even know what the Yaris takes now that I think about it. What would be a good "performance" synthetic oil?

No one game for a Synthetic Cocktail? Anyone ever tried it before. I don't think the additives should work against each other. I hope not anyway.

I hate it when people post with their sales BS instead of answering the original poster's question....to answer his question, NO the cocktaile you wrote of will not harm your engine.
To the Amsoil guys, could you please keep your commercial posts down to a minimum...otherwise I will complain to the web owners...and STAY ON TOPIC please! |

Yeah, I am being a cheapskate. I had a little worry that something would go weird on my oil by mixing competing brands. Mainly worrying about additives doing weird stuff when combined, but like someone said earlier, if you can mix it with conventionals, I should be OK. The Mobil-1 5W-30 was the old formula. Maybe a synergistic effect will occur in wich I will achieve 200WHP and get 98MPG. Oh well, wishful thinking...
