Fix For Low Idle When Warm On A Yaris Mk1
Im posting this in case is it can help anyone else with the same issue.
When I looked for help, I found lots of people having idle issues, but i found no solutions, Mine was idling 550-600 after it had completely warm (Above 80c) When i switched the headlights on it was even worse. After the below simple tweak im at 800-850rpm. For reference stock idle on a mk1 1.0 should be 650 + or - 50, which i personally think is too low. The solution involves rotating the idle valve control actuator housing clockwise. This fix also explains why when after cleaning the idle control valve some report the idle is fixed and others dont. The holes for the bolts are oval shaped, to allowing you tighten it in slightly different positions. Rotate the top towards the cabin to increase idle speed. The screws are 5 point stars, I used a hack saw to cut slots in the tight screws, i then used a manual impact driver to undo them. Oh and whilst you have the housing off make sure the spindle inside spins freely, completely take it off and clean it if not. See this photo for reference. |
