Shattered rear window
Some A-Hole threw a bottle through my rear window. It hit with such force that part of the bottle ended up on the dash board. A neighbor thinks that if came from a moving SUV. I got 3 estimates. $506, $469, and $748. Because the car is new and there aren't a lot of them, it is somewhat expensive. I hope that this is a random act of vandalism and no has a personal grudge against me. Probably some karma from my youth coming back at me.

Checking on insurance but I doubt it covers the damage. We have $500 deductible. Our covers windshield repair, however, this was replacement. By keeping a high deductible we are able to insure the Yaris, a 2008 CR-V, and 2004 Dodge Ram for $1,300. One war or another you pay for it.

if the driver was driving 40mph and the person standing through the sun roof threw it at the right moment then that's possible, but it takes so much precision ......it would had to be planned........ you should really suspect some people in your neighborhood.......do you have any beef with any teens there? but that's some f up stuff, during the summer kids were throwing rocks into rear windows around my neighborhood too. hope everything turns out fine. and do you have a garage? |

A passenger tossing the object out the window to the right simplifies the shot. You'd only have to keep it in the same plane and make sure it passed through the back window. Quote:
I've tossed full beer cans (which can explode nicely), empty containers, coins, stones and eggs. I've also spit out the window, which for some reason gets the most rage. Why I do not know. A classmate of mine and I used to play chicken on Pittsburgh's Homestead High Level Bridge, aka the Homestead Gray's Bridge. ![]() We'd exchange objects like bottle caps, pennies and one time I tried to "board" his convertible Volkswagen by leaping onto it. The sick bastard caught me getting ready and pulled away at the last minute. Doing such crap on the bridge made it "more fun". Tossing something out a vehicle window is comparable to lobbing a heavy object five or ten feet. You cannot make full use of your legs and must use the "kinetic energy" implicit in the vehicle's forward motion to cause damage. Tossing a basketball or baseball for accuracy and distance is tougher than tossing something out the window. With sufficient practice it's pretty easy to time the shot and nail the target. I could reliably nail an area the size of a Yaris's back window five feet or less away. All you need do is practice and not get caught. Personally I think anyone who clowns around like this needs a hobby. For example, Judo, Karate or some other aggressive sport. Quote:
I note that the street has few vehicles parked on it. Random act of violence? There is something about the Yaris which draws hostility from some people. It's so tiny that some folks consider it a juvenile vehicle. I've had people cut me off for spite and sometimes when I pass folks they become angry because a "little car" passed them. Another possibility is that someone named "Nemelek" is Arab in appearance and thus gets singled out for special attention. A contemptible thing to do, but that's how some idiots out there roll. However such a person will probably do it again and get caught. Life will not be good for them next time. Never knew that there was an "alcoholic's anonymous" sticker. Can't understand why that would piss anyone off. Gene |

Sorry about your broken window. Try to park off the street. If it was directed at you, then there will be more.
Ask around to see if others have the same problem. If so, then it is not directed at you. |

The garage is full. I sometimes park in the driveway, however, the neighbor has this silver maple that drips sap on cars. There have been a few problems in the neighborhood.
