SO I let my ex borrow my car for a month...
Came back... Nope, body panels all intact... No blown out tires...
She had some sort of a Pioneer deck installed (with an auxilary jack for my iPod), and a remote car starter as my x-mas present (was in Edmonton, AB, between December 14th and January 9th - yes, I did spend x-mas alone ). Had to go back to Future Shop (subsidiary of Best Buy for you Americans ) and get a keyless option added to it as my factory keyless entry doesn't work with the starter installed. I was a bit peeved at first, but soon realized an aftermarket FOB was only about fifty bucks to replace, as opposed to a factory FOB which runs for $359 in my neck of the woods. Don't worry, I still use my block heater. I hit the start/unlock buttons and swipe off the snow of the car, then get in, insert key, and drive away without the heart-wrenching 5k rpm song I usually get on a cold engine! |

I was pretty speechless... since I hadn't really gotten her anything (save maybe a couple hundred in groceries - starving student. ) It was real nice and I know she put in a shitload of OT even though she was already burned out from work.

hmmm maybe it's a sign she doesn't want to be your ex anymore?

She's actually stated that quite bluntly.
Surreal she would do that though. My last x-mas check (bi-weekly) I cleared what she makes in six months (also happened to have more deductions than take-home ), so it's definitely not possible to equate $=$. |

That's great! Nice story for a Sunday morning. When I saw the thread title, my heart sank. I lent my old Jetta out to an ex when I was in college, and it came back with both the front and rear bumpers dragging on the ground, and a tweaked unibody. She wasn't technically at fault, but I still think a better driver could have avoided the situation as it was explained to me. Yeah, its 6 years later and I still haven't gotten over it.

Excellent story. Sounds like a great girl. At least thoughtful.
One question..........How do I get my ex to borrow my car and install all that stuff? |

Yes, and thankfully, she was discharged four hours later without incident.

So is anyone interested in a Toyota remote-key setup for a power-lock'd Yaris?

The rule is simple if you borrow my car. I leave a Shell fleet card and an Airmiles card in the vehicle, and I expect both to be used to fill-up (and no where else).
And oh, to keep passing my car through the automatic wash (via the fleet card as always) as well. |
