Prius Hell!

My goodness, I have just returned from clinicals after a classmate decided to give me a ride. She drives an '08 Prius like its a freaking Mustang.

Now imagine this, its a 30 minute drive from south Houston up to northside to LBJ Hospital. The whole ride she is pushing the gas pedal to the floor, rears up to a car, slams on the brake, switches lanes, and hits the gas pedal again. Push and Slam, Push and Slam the whole way at around 70 to 80 mph. 80% of the ride, I see the gas mileage bounce between 29mpg to 42mpg. It only reaches 99.9mpg when she releases the gas for a mere 2 seconds. I flat out told her that my Yaris gets better gas mileage than her Prius and that is not something to brag about. Not to mention the abuse she is putting on the engine with this high speed inconsistency. On top off that, she never washes it, didn't realize that the windshield wipers needed to be replaced since MARCH of '08, and says that it uses special oil because the dealer said so.

I am glad she didn't buy a Yaris, I would use my Jedi powers to make her slap herself at 80mph.

She probably didn't pay for the car, so their is no ownership pride. Wait till she has to pay for a car herself or for repairs. Worst yet if the car is a handmedown, then it is something she never wanted.

Well, I forgot to clarify some things. She is a mother of 3, from Canada, and travels a lot. She does pay for the car. But I guess there are some people out there that don't treat a car as an extension of themselves. Some may view cars as just a hunk of metal on wheels.

OR, maybe she has not seen the repercussion of abusing a vehicle just yet?

I ain't gonna lie, I abused and re-used my old Escort. But when I bought my Yaris and realized that its more than just filling up my tank, it is about treating it well, keeping up with maintenance, and giving a good wax here and there.

I think the turning point was when I rear ended a Nissan Titan with my Yaris. Yeah, it was just a small scratch on the front bumper, but its scratch that is on a car that I am still paying monthly on. Thats when I realized that I gotta take better care of my car.

I know a guy who had a Z28 and got about 13 mpg. After he crashed it he got a slightly used Prius. Now he brags about his 29 mpg. I don't even want to know how he drives.

Ha! Firefox thinks "Prius" is a misspelling.

Nope, just white. But I think an Asian girl would drive better.
