computer based fuel economy?
Hey everyone, pretty new here, and have actually only had my yaris for about 24 hours now. I'm in the process of building the computer for the car, and am just using a simple 7" touch screen. Was curious if anyone has worked with programs that would give you read outs via that screen such as miles per gallon, temps, etc... The comp itself is basically just for music, but I thought that would be a nice feature to have, considering my 09 base model doesnt have anything but speedo and tach. Thanks!

I don't know about all the software, but the scangauge does pretty much everything you want, and its $165 from microimage.

Check out mp3car.com. They sell car pc hardware/software and the forums have lots of great info on car PC's. Pay special attention to the OBD forums.

I think I have most of that picked out, so heres the next problem, where the heck to a put 7" screen in the car... lol. I've been mocking some fiberglass molds with fabric and wood frames to sit at an angle below the climate gauges and in front of the shifter. Thanks for the help.

I was going to say, when I took my test drive there wasn't much room for my iPod let alone a 7" screen!
Anyway, a friend of mine integrated a laptop to his truck, but he has the $ to do what he wants anyway. You could get real time info from the Yaris, just depending how in depth you want it and how much you're willing to spend. Besides the scangauge, there's a fuel economy gauge that I've posted in another forum that gives you real time fuel economy (I can't recall the name off hand). Most computer readouts are accurate to within a couple percentage points. I'm careful at hand calculating my mileage...especially with my Durango as it eats so much. It also has an overhead mileage display. |

Between the visors would be good for movies, but this is a touch screen, so i gotta keep it close to even use it, as my finger is pretty much the mouse.
As for gauges, I dont want to get "fast and furious" in depth, just mpg, temps, and anything useful. Checked the other posts, and the scan gauge doesnt look like a bad idea either. Thanks for all the help. |
