DIY Engine Dampener
The nitto engine dampener is really expensive for what you get. I it also not adjustable. It would really be nice to have a dampener you could adjust in both compression and rebound. Well, how about a mountain bike rear shock? It frequently can do both and can be found cheap on ebay. All you need to do is some fabrication of the mounting points. What do you guys think???

Dr Isotope made a few of these for the Scion tC, they were really cool.
It is incorrect to say that the NITTO is not adjustable. I'm wondering if we could get just the brackets from them and source our own damper. Ingalls sells just their damper alone, might be a good call.

The mountain bike shocks won't last. They are not designed for that kind of harsh loads. My mountain bike rear shock didn't last 2000 miles of street use, and that's on the bike.

Over the years the shocks have improved. I would not use a ''air-only'' shocks but one of the more robust downhill coilover style shocks.
Are there any other possible sources for nice spring/dampener combos??? I like the golf cart idea. |

What about something like this , fairly inexpensive to boot at $55.00US
Does any body have photos of the bracket and there mounting postion.

Rigid requires some pretty solid balls! But....you may be on to something. Let's say you used a piece of not to thick curved spring steel. Where it attaches to the frame/body you use a piece of rubber or other elastomeric type of material to help isolate some of the vibration. I know there are a couple of threaded holes on the bottom of the engine. Perhaps these can be utilized?

looks cool for sure... but might it not be a bit too soft? One would need to do the calculations in terms of leverage of course, but I have my doubts

The bottom line is it looks like there are quite a few options for shocks. It also looks like you need a fairly stiff spring to help control the motion adequately.
The next big question is how do we mount something like this? Where should we mount it??? |

Looking at our motors, it pretty much has to go where the Nitto goes now.
I'm going to buy an Ingalls damper and see about the length of it. That would be a step up from the Nitto design. I'll also measure and try to source a mountain bike shock with the same length if possible.
