Yeah, it's 34 grand in Canada. For that price you can buy 2 Yaris's and still have money left over.

...maybe it's just being around detroit, but I don't know of any ford owners who drive carefully (hypermile style), or slow enough to reap the fullest of the test benefits.

17 gallon tank...a Yaris driven similarly could get about 850....a Yaris with a proper 5th gear ratio or even a 6th gear would easily compete with this car given the price differenc...but, at least one of the big 3 is trying.

$27K is very reasonable for this car. You can pay more for a Camry Hybrid or Prius. And the Fusion is better than the Camry Hybrid (dare I say).

Living in the past? What happened to make Ford better or even equal to Toyota in quality? Did those Mexican workers sprinkle magic jumping beans on the Fusion to make it better?

I'm a Toyota guy, trust me, but the Fusion in '06 marked a dramatic turn around in Ford quality. I know just like everyone else that Ford build junk for decades, but Fusion is truly a high quality car. We'll just have to see over time I guess for them to finally prove themselves.

BTW, check any quality survey, and the Fusion is right there on top with the highest quality cars. I'm not making it up.

Shame on him for using 40 years of utter crap as a reference point. The Fusion has only been out in the US since 06 - How could you possibly make a claim about its quality? I could freaking build a car that would last 3 years.

I'm rebuilding/fiberglassing the center console on my brothers 1993 camry with 180,000 miles on it. Besides the alternator, 2 power window motors, and general maintenance, its the only thing he's replaced or had to fix.

The Fusion looks interesting, but I'll wait until it's been out for a while before getting too excited. Being a new design, reliability/repair costs/resale value have yet to be determined.

ford doesn't compare with toyota for reliability... honda... yes, honda has slipped, and ford has gotten better.... but toyota has always been good and steady in terms of reliability.

Exactly...and Ford is where I would purchase a car if I was set on purchasing an American-made vehicle for that reason alone. I'm betting they will end up doing better than GM and Chrysler who aren't blinking an eye at taking billions and getting nowhere.

BINGO! You are so right. Ford can do what they want and GM and Fiat/Chrysler will have to produce cars that the government has to approve.

If one day there is an extreme gas shortage in the USA, it might come in handy to be able to travel 1000+ miles on a tank.

This car really, really impresses me. It beats the Camry Hybrid and matches the Insight (based on EPA). If I had $27K, I'd be all over this car.

And how about the regular V-6 Fusion? 37 mpg rated highway! That's remarkable. It freakin' beats the Yaris on the highway!

This accomplishment from Ford can't be overstated. And it has quality to boot too!
