Frequency for speakers + Stereo Error

Hi all. Well it's been weeks since I touched my system but I have a couple of free hours on hand, so I figured I get to fixing.

I've got 2 minor problems right now.
1st> since the last time i removed the factory radio to install reverse wiring harness for my scosche slc4 lineout converter, my stereo gives me the
"ERROR 001". So basically 50% of the time after turning on the car, the cd starts spinning and after 2-3 minutes of waiting it gives me the error <OR> it shows the songs where it was left off the last time, but doesnt start playing.

2nd> My front speakers are 75watts hooked up to my 90watts amp (infinity 475a), they can handle from 45hz and up. would it be safe if I turn down the freq on the amp from 80 to ooo let's say halfway between 80 and 32, especially since my amp is stronger than my front set.

Much love.
Steve

not sure what to say about the deck error, but on the subject of speakers, if they are being overpowered already, they will be getting more bass than they can handle...you will risk blowing the speakers by dropping the frequency. whats the make and model of the speakers you are using? if they are a decent quality or better(infinitys, polks, eclipses,mb quarts, ect) they may be able to handle it. I noticed with my infinity referance components that they didnt like to play below 60ish hz, so i bought some mid/sub woofers to handle the 50hz-80hz gap left by cranking the cross over up...on the plus side no distortion from the infinity components and they will last longer.

Well it basically goes
Infinity Reference 475a (90watts) Amp
Infinity kappa 63.9i (2-75watts @2ohms) front pair
--- can handle as low as 45
Infinity kappa 693.9i (2-110 watts @2ohms) rear pair--can handle as low as 35

to this day I do not know if the sharp sound is caused by my lineout converter, signal cables or the amplifier frequency but it is my fondest wish to find out ASAP.

Thanks BTW Spades for the quick response.

Eh, my stock stereo started doing that too, erroring out if I 'booted it up' into trying to play an MP3 CD. One of the driving reasons I said 'Fuck It' and bought an aftermarket HU, to stop dealing with the shitty 'doesn't work half the time' CD loader drive in the stock Yaris HU.

It sounds like the line out converter may have issues. I used a line out converter on my wifes stereo...it works well for the subwoofer i am using the converter for, but I tried using it and the amp to power the front speakers and i was very disappointed with the quality.

I would say the line out converter would be the first culprit I would look at. after that, check your wires, ensure no power or signal wires are damaged or grouding, ensure that you have a good ground and that the line converter and amp are wired properly.

and back onto what frequency issue. I have never known infinity speakers to be very good bass drivers, i have been a bit disapointed even by their subwoofers. however, they make a very clean sounding speaker, so what they lack on the low end they make up for in sound quality for the price range they are in.

My recommendation is, if you can at some point, consider adding a small 8" subwoofer or adding a pair of 5" or 6" subwoofers in the rear of the car(Tang band makes some very nice subs in that size that fill in a nice 40hz-200hz that is often missing in normal car audio set ups). The reason I say to add a bass drive of some sort is, those infinities will last a long time if you keep alot of the lower bass frequencies from them. I am happy with my current set up...however, if i had it to do over again, i would put my 5" tang bands on the rear deck of my sedan rather than under the seats.

hope you find the culprit of the stereo issues!

thanks for the info. I'll call the dealer to see If I can exchange the stereo for a new one; they probably won't go for it but untill I buy an aftermarket It's the best I can do since the error keeps showing up. as for the freq. i turned it back up to 80 & for now it's sounding normal.
