weird sound when engine at around 2000 rpms
Hi,
I got my new yaris 2009 about a week. I found there's some cracking sound when the rpm is at about 2000. It happens even if I use N shift. It seems like there isn't any cracking sound above 2000 or below 2000 rpms....The sound is like kekekekekke Does anyone know the reason for it? Please....>< |

My cars is quick, whats wrong with yours? You gotta use good oil (motul or total), good fiilter (purolator, wix - not toyota) and good gas (shell) and leave the radio/cd off. There is an electrical interference problem with the stock radio wiring. If you have a 5-spd 3 dr you should get to 60 in the 7-to-8 second range with ONE shift. If you got a 4 door auto you are doomed

TheSilkySmooth and PhilD424,
Do you mean it's normal? Even my 14 years old 95 previa doesn't have that sound... I am so afraid and want to have it fix if it's abnormal I only have the car in my hand for less than a week.... |

Today I asked my friend out to see the problem.....
However, the weird duh duh duh sound disappear when I see him....(I drive a while to meet him in somewhere, which is less than 5 minutes driving) After I home and turn off the engine for a few hours and turn it on again, the duh duh duh sound come back. It actually happen between 1900 to 2000 rpm...It never disappears even I drive it about ten minutes. Is there anyone know what happen to my yaris? |

There was a thread on this a while back. Around 1800-2000rpm, the engine/car shake and you can even hear it.
There is no response from toyota as to what causes this. I have noticed that in 2nd gear, around 1800-2000rpm, my car is loud, and the engine sounds very bad. As soon as I give it more gas, and it gets above 2000rpm, or changes gears, the noise is gone, and it sounds/feels smooth again. I really don't know whats causing this. I have 50,000miles on the car so far. This coming week I am going to change my motor oil(royal purple with 6000miles on it), and transmission fluid. I am going to also replace the spark plugs, and maybe even the cables if need be. At the end I will also be replacing the drum shoes, and the shocks. Honestly I say all that but at the same time have $0 to do it all. *sighs* |

Sounds like a good idea to just have it checked out. Since it's not a maintenance item, any work should be covered under warranty. Even if not, they are legally bound to provide you with a written estimate before any work is done.
