Angry My Yaris was attacked by a Honda!

Sigh.....everytime I buy a new car it gets smacked within the first 2 months.

First it was the 1995 S-10 I bought in late '94. Within the first 3 weeks I had a dented fender. That was casued by some idiot who decided to turn left on a one-way street from the far right lane (it was a major street that is 4 lanes wide at that point).

Then there was the '04 Civic EX coupe I bought in late '03. It was a month old when some kids shot the door with a BB and only 2 weeks after that it was hit by an out of control car (in the snow) while it sat parked, off the street.

Now it's my '09 Yaris hatchback. I thought I was going to make it......I've owned it for 3 months and 11 days now, so I thought I had broken the curse. Nope. I had just turned 3600 miles when a '95 Accord exiting a freeway decided to merge into the lane I was in. No big deal.....I saw her in plenty of time and moved over to the inside lane so she could merge. What happened next was fun.....she decided that she really wanted to turn left and proceeded to attempt a U-turn and ran right into me. I didn't even have time to touch the brake pedal before we collided.

Luckily the damage is relatively minor, but still ~$1850 to repair. The fender and the wheel took the brunt of the force. Even more lucky for me is that she actually had valid insurance (it's a crap shoot sometimes) and it was clearly her fault (was issued a ticket for failure to yield). Also since it is a brand new car there should be no issues getting a settlement (no nitpicking any prior damage, etc.).

Anywho.....here are a few pics of my once pristine Carmine red Yaris.

A shopping cart in a walmart parking lot nailed my 6 week old 1999 neon. I do know that sickening feeling.

That really sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. I live in constant fear that somebody's gonna cram my Yaris. I always make sure to either park it away from everyone else in the lots, or park next to one of the parking lot medians so at least only ONE side will get dented if some gigantic SUV parks next to me and feels the need to swing its door wide.

Hope you get your Yaris back to brand new asap.

Bummer, between parking lots and goofy drivers, I almost want to take a ball-peen hammer to my new cars. At least I have the pleasure (privilege) of putting the first dent on her (in an inconspicuous place).

As SailDesign says, Glad it was only the car,

I have a few friends who put a scratch under their car and behind the passenger dashboard so they could be the first!

Sorry for the damage done to your car... I'm glad you're OK and I hope everything works out.

Yeah.....I'm also glad it's just minor damage. It could have been worse, but it still amazes me how I can go for years driving a 10+ year old car and never come close to an accident, but when I buy a brand-spanking new one I get whacked.

Anyway, her insurance will be covering the damage. I just got a call from her adjuster and they will be doing their inspection later today. We'll see how close they come to the estimates I've gotten so far.

I would have been far more upset if this had happened in my '59 Austin-Healey, so in that respect I'm glad I was in the Yaris. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

WTF... i hate this man.. That cop must be a real dumbass. Why give a ticket for failure to yield when clearly you were trying to let her merge. I'd contest that off as he had not seen what happened.

take care~
