Toyota unveiled its Yaris TS model today at the Paris Auto Show. The Yaris TS is a high-performance model of the regular Yaris hatchback and is powered by a 130 bhp 1.8L gasoline engine with Dual VVT-i.
Maximum torque of 173Nm is achieved at 4,400rpm. Maximum horsepower is reached at 6,000rpm. 0-62mph @ 9.3 seconds 120 mph top speed. In addition to this engine, the TS receives suspension and steering upgrades to provide for a sportier driving experience. There is a black mesh grille with a clear TS badge, darkened headlamp surrounds and a deeper bumper with integrated fog lights. The rear bumper receives a refresh, with an integrated chrome-finish sports exhaust tailpipes and fog lights. The rear lamp clusters adopt an LED-style design. 17" alloy wheels are standard equipement and the body gains deep side skirts and a roof spoiler. |

I would have guessed the 0-60 would be faster than 9.3 seconds...that's about the same as my stock ECHO! If not slower! WTF! Of course the top speed might be higher and the handling is better...don't get me wrong I'm NOT knocking the car, I like it a lot and I think its hot but...oh well! I wonder if that's because the car weighs more? But it shouldn't be much more right? And I would have guessed even 130bhp is in the power to weight favor.

i'm beating every car on the road now with my stock 1.5 liter yaris. I don't understand the need for over kill on power with the yaris. Personally I wish they'd come out with a hybrid yaris that gets 70 miles to the gallon.

A hybrid version of the Yaris would be nice. Anyway won't this TS model have lower fuel economy because of the more powerful engine?

I was poking around Toyota's site and came across this new feature...
http://www.toyota.co.jp/en/news/06/0929.html This would be sooo kick ass on the Yaris, not to mention every other vehicle made on the planet.

haha. THAT'S a "high-performance" model? give me a break. i cant for the life of me understand why people would buy this car if they are looking for a "high-performance" car. buy a used wrx or something that actually gets a sub-6sec 0-60. there is nothing fast about going 0-60 in 9.3secs. why cant we just be happy with what this car actually is.... a reliable, fuel-efficient econo-car?

anyways... you cant honestly believe that a Yaris can beat a M3 or a 350Z, can you? claiming a 108hp Toyota to be faster than a 330hp M3 is ubsurd. come on - admit it, putting out a car that does 0-60 in over 9 secs and then trying to pretend its a high performance vehicle is kinda dumb. dont get me wrong - its a pretty car. just not a fast one.
