Talking Buying a '05 Yaris YRX Today!

Hey Guys & Girls,

Greetings from sunny Gold Coast, Australia! My name's Dan, I'm 27 and I'm about to get a pretty good deal on a second yand Yaris from a dealer today!

It's a 2005 Yaris YRX 1.5L Manual in Blue. Just over 60,000 kms, for $10, 000 Aussie Dollars.

I've always been a big Toyota fan, previously owning a Camry, Corolla, '89 Turbo Supra & '91 Twin Turbo Soarer...plus I have a PRB Clubman (open-wheeler) running a Toyota 4AGE Engine with Motec.

So I haven't had a car for a few years as I work from home and everything is accesible to me, but joining a band and needing to go to jams/gigs means I need some transport! Speaking of that, I hope with the read folding seats I can squeeze my 5 peice kit in!

I was swaying between a performance or economy car...and I 'maturely' decided to go with economy...so to cut a long story short I found this great deal on a Yaris yesterday and decided I would go pick it up today!

Pretty dam excited, even if it is a small car. But I've never owned a car only 5 years old, so it will be like new for me. I really love the look of the interior and the digital dash looks strikingly similar to that in my '89 Supra (why couldn't Toyota come up with some better dash graphics over 15 years? I guess stick with what works).

Can't wait to get back and give my first impressions on this fine little car...got a 45 minute highway drive back so will be interesting!

You can view the 'For Sale' listing here:

Anyway...let me know what you guys think. Never thought I'de own a Yaris but here I am and I think I'm going to like it! Looking forward to some small mods too (springs/shocks, air intake, exhaust).

YAY!

Cheers,
Dan

Congrats on your purchase Dan .. Another Aussie on the Yaris band-wagon! I'm sure you will love her, and from the pictures she looks just like new! Definitely envious of how cheap cars are up in QLD though..! Look forward to seeing what you do to her!

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

Well I bought it!

Had great frun driving down the coast from Brisbane in my new Yaris YRX. The steering was effortless and smooth, the manual gearbox shifts are very short and direct...she drives like a new car!

The only small issue I had was when shouldering checking to merge into the right lane the pillar creates quite a blind spot, but the side mirror is equipped with one of those little magnifying circles which does eliminate the need to check over your shoulder, but it's a habit of mine and was a bit daunting driving a new car not being 100% sure I was free to change lanes. Apart from that very minor issue it was excellent.

Also getting used to cornering hard in a Front Wheel Drive car is something I'll have to get used to again. I didn't push it to the limit but I'm just wondering at what point it will begin to understeer. Maybe I should lower it, get some front and rear strut bars or something to give it better handling?

I now find myself seeing Yaris's everywhere and are loving it...can't wait to meet some other enthusiatic owners and see how they have personalised their cars!

Now I'm going to get Maccas breakfast (drive thru) just so I can drive her again! I feel compelled to drive everywhere haha.

Got band practise this afternoon so I will post some photos of squeezing a whole drumkit into this little car...tetris packing is the best

Cheers!
Dan

Well a full 5 peice drum kit with cymbals and stands easily fits into the back of the Yaris! Plus I still had heaps of room left and didn't need to store anything on the drivers seat! I was amazed at how much storage space such a little car has.

Great Car...Thinking first mods will be a Pod Filter Intake, some swars bars, then eventually some suspension.

Lovin it!
