Would you buy an 08 Tacoma with 115K?

So, I'm in the market for a 4x4 Tacoma. I'm looking to replace my 04 Nissan Xterra with one. I found one this morning that is extremely clean, but has 115K on it. It's an 08, that was used as a commuter, rather than a work truck. With how loaded my Xterra is (supercharger, leather, etc.), I can do almost a direct trade for the Tacoma. Is it worth it, or am I crazy to consider trading to a higher mileage vehicle?

only with up to date service records showing the minor and major maintenance was done

no service records, no deal

otherwise, yup I'd get it

I'd say absolutely. Hopefully maintenance records can be produced - mainly proving timely oil changes.

On an '08 with that many miles, you know it lived on the highway, which is good.

Does the Tacoma have a timing belt or chain? If it's a belt, I'd make sure its been done. How about the serpentine belt (cheap enough anyway)?

Otherwise, the truck probably doesn't need anything else. It will last another 300,000 miles.

If the price is right, pull the trigger. If they want the same price as those with half the mileage, then no.

If you want it then it is, but buying a vehicle with that many miles just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I mean it is a toyota, so it will last forever, but that is just way too many miles for me.

I sold my '96 Tacoma recently. It had 120,000 miles on it. So that many miles on an '08 seems like a million!

I'm curious though why anyone would use a thirsty truck to commute that many miles. The gas bill to go that many miles in 2 years is staggering - more than the truck payment itself.

Yeah, my Tacoma was a V-6 and loved gas.

Nothing. It's just that it's not the most practical vehicle for me these days. I drive my Yaris 90% of the time, so I basically just use the X for lumber yard and dump runs. Most of the time this means towing my trailer, as the X doesn't have the interior cargo space and the mile high roof rack is a bit of a hassle.

The X is worth somewhere between $8K and $10K. The asking price on the 115K mile Tacoma is $15K. A brand new comparably equipped one is about $27K and with 50K miles or less, they seem to go for about $20K.

15K with 115 thousand miles??!! no friggin way, not me anyways.
And I'll give another thing to think about. I've seen this several times. I live right outside of Kansas City. I have a link here to Cars.com ...hope it works. It shows Tacomas 2008 and what they sell for in KC, now look at the bottom two. In Lawrence,KS about 40 minutes west of here.Selling price is approx 6k less. Location ,location and whats popular. Scout around within 100 miles of where you live. You may be able to run across the same thing. In Lawrence, Volvos and pick ups dont sell for squat.

115K seems like a whole lot to me as well. I am really not in a rush, but this was one of the cleanest used ones I've run into, so I gave it a second thought.

The two 6K lower ones on that cars.com page are 4x2, which typically run about $6K less than 4x4s.

The one for 18k says its 4x4. But I wasn't suggesting you come here to buy one,lol My point is, just like here, there can be areas near by where they don't have the popularity and don't sell for as much as where you live. Lawrence is a college town and they want cutesy fartsy cars, not 4x4, so they don't sell well.

I wouldn't because of the miles and its four wheel drive. That is a lot of wear and tear on the transfer case and drive line. The other thing to consider is the drag the transfer case and drive line puts on the engine. This additional resistance means more wear and tear on the engine.
