eclipse gsx
i was at an scca autocross meeting last night and a fellow member told us about an owner at a machine shop has a 2nd gen (95-99) ecilpse GSX AWD for sale $2500.. but he said that the man is willing to negotiate possible down to 1500 to someone who runs safe events (his son was killed last year street racing and selling alot of his kids projects). that is the 4G63T. same engine in the Evo's 7-9 and i think evo 10.. not sure.. AWD though.. wow
the catch! the motor and transmission is out of the car but he has 6 motors and buyer gets to pick which one he/she wants when purchased. im told he has several regular 4G63 and 2 4G63 with the 6 bolt version (i dont know what that means exactly but they say you WANT that motor if u can get it) also tranny comes with it also. the drivers fender and door is rusted cuz it was sanded down and was about to get painted but he has replacement door and fender to go with it.. i just sold my crx shell and motor and other honda stuff and freed up the garage.. i was gonna start playing with the yaris now but this may be an offer i cannot refuse. i will be going by to get a personal look and talk to the guy tomorrow after work. ive been tossing the idea back and forth wheather to keep the yaris as is for a while til the warranty is done and make the eclipse the next high hp project.. or let this go and focus on the yaris... i feel this will be a bias opinion on this website |

You do want the 6 bolt motor, The 7 bolt that came in the 95-99 DSM's was prone to crank walk. The 6 bolt is stronger. DSM's arre awesome cars though, you can make crazy amounts of hp

+1. I used to have a '95 GST with the 6-bolt Evo IV motor years ago and never had this problem, even with engine mods and at high mileage. That's your best bet.

get it...you can always put it back together and make a profit. they sell for over 5 grand if put back together properly and in good condition. GSX are rare and a hard find. i'd get it, fix it up, drive it a while then sell it if i didnt wanna keep it.

I'd get the GSX and build it cleanly.

what up.. bringing a post back. after a few weeks of debating and putting in the numbers. i decided to go with it. ill be picking it up this weekend and will have pictures to post also in the "lets see what else you drive" thread. ive been doing alot of research on this car also and appears 400hp is not hard at all to achieve.. would be a beast on the autocross.
now i have looked at some forums but havent done membership to any yet. anyone familiar with any good forums that are still alive? ive checked out team-2g.com and dsmtalk.com.... seem ok.. any preferences would be appriciated for information |

UPDATE!
I guess its time for the update, after 3 months
Ok, so the 2 engines that came with the car (7bolt and 6bolt, both non-turbo) had busted blocks. The 7bolt had a rod push thru the side of the block right under the intake manifold. Hard to see, didnt even notice it til i got the head off. The 6bolt had a transmission ear broken off so i couldnt get it on a engine stand to do anything. |

I spent the next month researching while im searching on craigslist and ebay and forums for another block..
Finally found one early May that was about 3 hours south from where i lived. good price, 175 for a long block.. just disassembled, but no biggie.. As soon as i got it back home, called up the Machine shop and said "i got something for you". He inspected and cleaned everything up and polished the crank and made sure i could use all stock components still. Threw it in the yaris, Got it home 2 weeks ago, and ordered a full rering kit and gasket/seals kit. got it on the stand and was ready to start |

I avoid DSM's like the plauge. I prefer to spend more time driving my cars than fixing them.
Yours on the other hand is looking like it's coming along awesome. love the orange color!
