yaris vs renting car

A few times a year my work sends me to training and they usually rent me a car but they told me that I can drive my own for 48 cents a mile. Its a 1200 mile round trip so that cash would be nice. Would you guys drive your own car or rent one?

48 cents a mile??? Shiiit I'd drive every time. Here it 33 cents per mile and I still drive it every chance I get. Thats $19.20 / gallon of gas spent. (assuming 40MPG)

That's $576 in reimbursement when it will only cost you approximately $95 in gas. It's a no brainer!!

This is considering a realistic 38 miles per gallon and the current national average of about $3/gal.

That's the beauty of a very fuel efficient car when used for business driving. Everyone gets the same rate but the economy car profits far more.

Of course there's the wear and tear factor as well but that is extremely minimal when it comes to the bullet proof Yaris.

That's what I would do.

my company has it's limits on that. i wanted to drive to SC from TX and they said no...but i can go to atlanta GA in the next few months...still 600 in my pocket...after all is said and done with paying gas.

only crappy part is, you're using your tires, brakes, oil, belts, ac compressor, radiator fluids....and so much more. but, it's still more than worth it. i could change all those with that check and still be out on top.

Agreed, plus in my situation they (my company) will not pay for me to drive if renting a car is cheaper (rental fees and fuel). Be sure to verify that they will reimburse you for the full amount before deciding...

Cheers! M2

rent a car....if something happens you're covered on its insurance, not your own...

im also assuming that if you rent, they'll cover your gas? rent a good highway cruiser and be done with it.

Last time I rented a car they took a copy of my insurance so I might as well drive my own car. I get back on a friday and If I rent a car I'll have to run all the way back to the rental car place (40 miles) on saturday to drop the car off. I think i'll rent the car and not tell the wife they're paying my mileage haha.
