feeler: rear window wiper delay
so after an assignment at school i have thought of a easy way to make the rear wiper have a delay between strokes. its still in the planning/ design phase but i figure if i can get enough interest i might make a kit and sell them.
i will make it as simple as possible the way its gonna work (the way the prototype is working so far) is it will allow the rear wiper to do 2 complete cycles and have a 5 second delay. the module still has not been tested in my car, only bench tested. this mod will make the rear wiper have a perment delay, the delay will not be able to be switched on or off (the time can be changed, i am playing with different capacitors to get tifferent delays and differnt cycle numbers. parts havent been priced exactly yet but im looking between $20-$50, depends on the price i can get the parts for

Go for an A on the project and a more marketable item and make the time delay adjustable. I built one when I installed my Prius wiper stalk. I started off with a simple circuit using a 555 timer IC with a potentiometer to adjust the time delay, but ended up switching to a PIC microcontroller to give me more flexibility. The trickiest part is finding the correct pulse time for the wiper. The rear wiper motor lacks the cam triggered feedback switch that intermittent wiper motors have. Without that feedback switch it's easy to end up with the wiper stopping in the wrong position.

Uhm. Rather than a kit, I'd be interested if it was a DIY that I could solder together myself for less than $10-15 in parts; like the Cruise Control DIY.
I'm sorry, but close to $50 is too much. |

will make a diy for it no problem. and 50 bucks was just a possible max, im aiming towards the $20 but it depends on how much interest there is and how much much work it turns out to be.
if you have a Prius wiper stalk or something of the sort that has variable speed control, we could hook that up but you would need to run a wire from the stalk to the rear wiper motor. if i had the aftermarket stock i would try it and work with it but havent done that mod yet (dont feel the need for front intermintent wipers)

and CTScott, was looking at using just a simple counter and decoder system. the DIY could be fairly complicated cuz the module would need to be soldered and properly hooked up

True - You end up with quite a few components that way. With the microcontroller design I just have the 8 pin IC, one transistor, one relay, two resistors, and the potentiometer.
