Best tires for snow - Toyota Yaris Forums

Just looking for advice on tires that work well on ice and snow, have a 2008 liftback and it's awful in snow with stock tires. Is there an all-season that works well or would an actual snow tire be necessary? As far as small cars in snow I remember my wifes '94 Geo Metro was Awesome for snow and ice, figured it was because the tires and rims were so narrow. My Yaris has 185/60s 15s.

X-ice and blizzaks are great tires...I'm in hankook i-pikes this year and like them a lot

Firestone Winterforce work pretty decent as well, I've been on them for 3 winters.

I'm enjoying X-Ice but understand that the new Hankook (727 ?) four-season outperformed the other four season tires, including Nokian, in testing.

We have Conti ExtremeWinter on the yaris, and have been happy with them. Ive sold a few set of the general's to corolla and Prius owners and they seem to like them. Sold a set of Hankook Ipike's on a transit connect this year, and I really really like the look of them (not bad price either), but I don't have any reviews on them.

The only winter tire I haven't heard great reviews of was the dunlop 3d (heard mixed things from BMW drivers)

I have conti extremewintercontact tires. Absolutely amazing in snow and icey roads. For real deep fluffy snow the firestone winterforce is great...i used to run them on my old malibu..and my friend has them on all their cars...they are so so on the icey stuff

i too have the conti's and when paired with this car it makes winter

Bridgestone Blizzak WS 70s . Use them for the sedan . Have low rolling resistance as well .

So, I ended up getting a set of Nitto NT-SN2, 65.00 per. Had them for over a month now, excellent on both snow and ice, can't beat the price. Very satisfied and happy!

General altimax arctic hp's are amazing (we've used them on other cars)...plus they're dirt-cheap! The only downside is they've killed mpg by 2 (compared to my all-seasons from last winter) If not, buy 330h's used winterforce set at a bargain.

I've noticed a small decrease in mileage with any snow tires. And thanks for the plug!

No loss of gas mileage with 4 Bridgestone Blizzak WS 70s set at 34.5 > 35 p.s.i.. Just got 40.1 m.p.g. with them on the '08 sedan w/ automatic . These have good low rolling resistance and do very well for snow and rain .

Ah, I do run mine at 32 PSI, probably the culprit since I run my summer wheels at 35 usually.

I just purchased some Hankook Optimo 4S All Weather tires (they are rated the same as winter tires, for places like Quebec that requires winter tires) for my 2007 Yaris 3 Dr LB. They are only sold in Canada (at Canadian Tire) and apparently do awesome in winter conditions. I didn't want to change tires so winter tires were not an option. So far I really like them .. but I am still waiting to see how my mileage is on these new tires. I guess I have to wait some time to see how they really work in winter.
