Opinion on bumper protector

Ok, put on a bumper protector after accidentally putting a few scratches into my bumper loading and unloading things from my hatch. I don't think I like it, kills the elegant simpicity of the car.....then again if it had some rugged gear on it like a roof rack and some mud guards it might look really cool. Opinions?

I've included before and after shots.

I'm not a big fan of them either,it does ruin the look of the rear bumper.
I believe with a roof rack, you would take the chance of scratching the car
when loading or unloading.

no, I'm just saying that with mud guards and a roof rack IN ADDITION to the bumper protector it'd at least least kinda "sporty" in an extreme/mountain dew/active lifestyle kinda way.

I think I might take my hair dryer to it this afternoon and remove it. I'll just get some touch up paint for the scratches.

Okay.
How about some off road lights mounted on the roof rack?

that particular protector looks kind of generic (maybe that is what that year came with). I got one from ebay and it had "yaris" kind of printed into it. that one works a little better.

also, my car is black so it doesn't stand out as much.

Yep, I've got the same one and it isn't very obvious on my black hatch either.

I am surprised that no one has made a thick, clear plastic film that would afford some protection without such a stark contrast in color.

Cheers! M2

It's a good idea, but I don't think there is a clear plastic that doesn't yellow with age and that would look horrible after a while.

The black guard on my black hatch helps to break up a stark line and gives the car a more friendly look. But I agree that it doesn't seem to suit your red car. Perhaps you should de-badge the rear and then see if the guard looks better without the plastic chrome.

I like it with the guard, helps break up the rear end a bit. Seems naked without it, but that's just imo.

^I'm with 403RS, I like it. I'd like to see a post-apocalyptic-zombie-infested getaway-car Yaris, and one with a roof rack, and mud guards would be a nice start :D.

Next time, keep a large soft cloth, such as an old blanket, in your car at all times. Just drape it over the back bumper when loading and unloading, and it'll protect the paint.

I think it looks fine. Not a fan of mud flaps or decorative roof racks.

Looks... practical. Which it is.

It looks a lot better than a scratched bumper, that's for sure.

^ Yup...I have two huge pet peeves with cars. One is the scratched bumper lips which is why I bought the OEM bumper protector right from the dealership and it was applied before I left the lot the day it drove off back in 06. The second is the door handle wells because they are always scratched and look like ass no matter what unless you do something there too.

Not a fan for your vehicle. I think you would need patches of the black plastic elsewhere on the body to make it look "rugged."
