CV joint driver (left) side
I'm about to replace a broken cv joint. Does anyone have any words of wisdom before I begin. I'm only starting this because I haven't found anything online for a yaris cv joint. Is it possible that transmission fluid will leak out? I'd love any tips.

The transmission side, (Axle Seal) would be where id look for a leak. But yes, once the shaft is removed the fluid will come out, then just replace the fluid.
Probably cheaper to just replace the entire shaft as a single unit.

How many miles did the CV joint fail? Did the boot fail?
How much for the axle?

The boot Did not just the axle. I got a refurbished for $40.00. My yaris is about 103000 miles.

Was the axle nut easy to remove? That was my main difficulty the 2 times I did that DIY job (on different cars).

Nope not easy. I just got a spike and hammer so I was able to hammer the nub out of the axle. with muscle and a breaker bar and wd40. On top of that I had to use a half inch socket because I broke the 3/8 socket. Pretty tight.
