Sqeaky Sqeaky...HELP
i now have almost 600 miles on my car. love everything about it except for a sqeak from my dash. sometimes when im driving down the road i get a sound comeing from my dash that sounds like a couple of mice of having at each other in my car. the sounds stop when i put my hand on the dash. my dad is pretty sure that its the dash rubbing against the plastic protecting the speedometer. i agree w/ him. i know its not a big deal but its just kinda annoying and makes the quality of my car seem less then what it is. anybody else have the problem and how did u solve it?

Mine doesn't do it, but I am more then happy to link you to schematics for dash disassembly procedure. You might just need to pull the dash apart and reassemble with care possibly using a shim along the way to correct it. Have you tried the old fashion approach of giving the offending area a good solid whack with you palm when it carries on? I have fixed more then a few rattles over the years with this method.

If the Karate Chopping method above does not work I too would suggest taking it to the dealer and telling them to make it right.

The only reason I asked is that gravel roads will shake the hell out of any car and make them squeak. Good luck with the dealer. If I can help with schematics, or what ever let me know.

The dealer attempted to fix it three times - all unsuccessful! ![]() A few weeks ago I removed the centre console (official name is actually "rear console box assembly") and took out the plastic piece that covers the gap in the shift lever area (the "position indicator slide cover" for automatic trans). Noise gone for a while. A couple of days ago - after a cold night - the noise was back in the morning but gone again in the afternoon. It may be due to expansion/contraction of the plastics in the console areas. Unless I can isolate the problem before the cold weather returns its going to be a long winter again!

Wasn't this brought up a while back? Didn't it end up being something related to the windshield mount?

Isn't there a TSB for a squeaky dash?

Ah, makes me miss my first vehicle, a '67 Dodge Power Wagon. Back in the old days, the dashes didn't squeak because they were metal, and bolted, and frikkin' WELDED.
Of course, should you ever have a wreck, your skull would smash to little pieces like a raw egg, but hey, those cars were built right! ![]() (That Dodge did have a little pad that ran across the dash to "protect" your head, but I'm pretty sure the pad was still hard enough to bust my head open!) ~YR
