A trick to changing your battery
If you remove your battery the computer needs to relearn everything I learned when the battery was hooked up. I change the battery in my wife’s car at five years ago she go to work and it wouldn’t start. The computer had learned enough yet.
So there is a plug you can get that plugs into the OBD two terminal and there’s two alligator clips to hook a battery to. I use my tractor battery. This way the computer Always sees 12 V when the old battery is removed.Always sees 12 V when the old battery is removed. https://www.amazon.com/Outzone-Memor.../dp/B075WV4P7K

How long did it take to change the battery?
I don't know how long the ECU memory holds up for once the battery is disconnected, but most battery installers here use these devices to avoid having to put the security code into the car radio.

Maybe an hour from removal, travel to and from the store, and the actual installation.

I changed my battery yesterday and my car won't start anymore. How do I get the security code? And do I enter it in the radio?
Thanks Mel |

Just be careful, the battery cables will still be live even though the battery is unhooked. I wrap the positive in a rag.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that.

I do not know how long it takes the computer to re-learn everything.
The only impact I noticed when changing the battery was that I lost all the saved radio stations. And the clock re-set too. Other than that - no difference. This tip you mentioned is useful for sure and I have heard that some cars even "forget" their security settings and you cannot get inside even with the original key after a battery is replaced. Which is crazy. Luckily for us, Yaris is not this car. Personally I disconnect my battery on purpose, whenever I work on the car. Just for security reasons. After all, it is an excellent opportunity for me to finally set the dashboard clock to exact time (as the dashboard clock in my Yaris slows down approx 1 minute per month). |
