Exclamation My fix-it ticket - should i fight it?

I got a $300 ticket last night.

$250 because my tints were 26% with the meter thing that the cop used. the law is 35% and thats what was put on. could it be that the meter was defected or something?

next was $50 for my exhaust being t00 loud. the cop just told me to turn on the car and said "its too loud and illegal". can he even give me a ticket for just hearing it? i don't know the legal limit for exhaust noise but I'm guessing under 93DB

Just curious if i have any chance if i fight it?

do you have a receipt for the tints that says they were 35%, if not is gonna be difficult for the judge to give you any favors.

as for the loudness of the muffler, the cop should have some kind of way to test the decibel level. if he doesn't how would he know what legal???

the only way to get around it...if its acually LEGAL...

i wanted to re-tint my windows to 25% all round. I rang up about 5 tinters here and they ALL said "i cant give you anything on a piece of paper" which basicly means that if i get fucked up, i cant pin point it to the company that did it. They will give me warranty for it....but "nothing on paper"

Id say ur fucked for the tints, but with ur exhaust try to claim that since a cop just cant "hear" if its over the decibels limit. I recon my exhaust is louder than yours.....plus it depends on the cop too, u can get ur mellowed ones and ur asshole ones...u got the asshole

what exhaust do you have? custom? also uoi might want to just get the front windows tinted a bit lighter and avoid the problems, but the inspection shops have a tester and you may be able to get one of them to check the tints out to make your case. if it passes with them why not with the cop?

you should go back to the window tinting place where you got your tint done and ask for receipt if it''s really legal. Because here in GA, they can give you a ticket for window tinting up to $1000 dollars or 6 months in jail.

Honestly, I'm not sure if the meter was wrong. Most car windows have a natural tint to them. It's so minor that you don't really notice but it is there. So when you add on a 35% tint, you're adding to what is already there and really going below the level you're supposed to have.
Anyway, maybe check what %s the shop you got them from offer for tinting? Perhaps if they only do 5%, 20% and then 35% you could argue that there's no way you could have 26% on your car and that the ticket should be thrown out because the meter was faulty.

sounds like you got a dick head cop. Fight it. It only delays when you have to pay and costs the county more money.

What does it say on the ticket? Can you send in proof of correction, or are you required to appear?

My opinion would be go to court anyway, if you have the time--very few people bother but usually worth it, judge usually will reduce fine and points, if any.

It doesnt say anything about proof of correction or required to appear....it just says civil offense then the description and all...

do u think if i put the stock exhaust and reduced the tint then take pics of it and go to court that will reduce it?

That's my impression also, just surprised it does not say anywhere on the ticket (front or back) how you're supposed to provide the proof...
