Rear brake shoes won't seat properly
Hi. I need some help. 2009 Yaris. Got my rear drums off and rebuilding the brakes. One side went together easily. The other side won't. I think the silver lever that sits behind the shoe that is used for the e-brake is stopping the adjuster from sitting into the shoe properly. That's leaving them too far out and stopping the drum going back on. Trouble is that I can't find a way to reduce the tension on the handbrake cable so that it sits where it should. There doesn't seem to be an adjuster under the car like some vehicles have. Any advice?

Figured it out eventually. Driver's side cable seized. That stopped the shoes sitting back properly and so the drum wouldn't go past the shoes. Unseized the cable (undid all the 10mm bolts along its path) then put it all back together. Works perfectly now.

Excellent!
The only way I could get my VW beetle rear drum brakes to work was to disconnect the parking brake hardware entirely.
