Deafening at highway speeds
I have an 07 sedan, and one thing I noticed right away was the gawd-awful racket that the wind makes when driving down the highway, with the front windows up and the rear ones down. It creates a weird little vortex that makes your eardrums implode. And, evil monkeys come out of it

Yeah I noticed that too. The first time it happened was when my grandson rolled his window down in the back. It hurt my ears the noise was so bad. Had to have him roll it back up. At first I thought there was something going wrong with the Yarii. Still don't know what causes it.

the 3dr liftback will do the same thing if only one of the windows is down all or most of the way. Crack another window and it will stop. My mom's old '81 Corolla sedan would do the same thing.

Yeh, every car does this effect. You need to slightly open another window up to eliminate the effect.

the wind buffeting is lessened if you put one of the front windows down just a bit.

yeah, i noticed that a few months back. i also noticed that you get a nice breeze with the right passenger window a little down, and the driver-side window a little down too. all the other windows are closed.

Most if not all cars can eventually get this effect, you want deafining?
Try the new Tundra double cab(not crew cab) with both rear windows down, I thought my head was going to implode. |

Dangit, I've seen an article on the net that explains the physics of it and why almost all cars do it, but now I can't find the blasted thing. It had diagrams and everything! It's got something to do with the way the sound waves of the wind buffeting travel through the car... they get caught in some kind of loop that dramatically amplifies them. Wish I could find that article again!
