Yaris Seat

Upon buying my new 3-door Yaris I took it to a specialist to fit me with seat covers.
The door seats have a lever on the side that tilts the seat back. This lever fits inside the seat through a 2-pronged plastic tongue. When the fitter pushed this lever back, he accidentally broke the plastic tongue and the Toyota told me that the whole seat has to be replaced because of this bit of plastic.
I appreciate that for technical and economic reasons certain parts cannot be produced as spare, but at least the manufacturer should ensure that such irreplaceable parts are made of stronger material.
I wonder if anyone else has came across a similar mishap and how they managed the repair.

Agreed. OTOH, why should you care in this instance? The shop who installed the covers should pay to replace the seat.

I also think the seat-cover shop should be responsible for the reapair or replacement of the seat.

And, of course, your new Toyota has a bumper to bumper warranty that should cover that part as well.

I can remember when the interior plastic door handle broke on my Camry. When I went to the dealer, I discovered that the plastic handle could only be purchased as part of an assembly at over $100. Instead, I went to a salvage yard and got one in perfect condition for $2. So, as a last resort, you may be able to find a seat lever (online) from a salvage yard.
