As long as you are doing regular interval oil changes within the guidelines of the manufacturer, you will be alright...

Couldn't have said it any better. I've driven most of my vehicles to the 150000 mile mark and all ran as good as the day I bought them. My point was why increase the cost of operation with this vehicle when if you follow Toyota's guidelines she in all probability will go 200,000 with little or no work other than routine maintenence. Do what works for you and gets your girl to the 200,000 plus mark without added expense.

I have been using this for years, I can not atest to any of the other ones since I dont use them. But going from regular to full synth is a big difference.

I am not saying it is the best oil out there, it probably isn't; but it also isn't as bad as some claim. And there are a lot of other variables that factor into increased MPG results, not all associated with oil.

But you still prefer Mobil-1 to Mobil's conventional oil, correct? I think that's sort of what 41magmag41 was getting at; why synthetic over conventional.

I use Mobile 1. If it comes as a factory fill on Corvettes than it is good enough for my Camaro and Yaris

I didn't see any noticable improvement in fuel economy when I switched to synthetic. But I do my own service, plus Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 at 3.99 (O'Reilly's) a quart it's too good of a deal to pass on.

For those of you who know any advance auto part store, they are having this special thru April 22nd. 5 Quarts of CASTROL Full Synthetic Motor Oil AND a K&N Performance Oil Filter for $24.99 plus applicable taxes. I'm not sure if it's nationwide. I leave in south florida and they are having the special here. I encorage those who want to find out more, to check their website and check by putting your zip code.
Here is the link

I am an Automotive component engineer and (past life) NIASE Master tech and race engine builder. We had a bad spate of Denso filters that were killing both suzuki and toyota engines. Our Suzuki and 2 toyotas use the same filter. The Toyota Rav was serviced by Toyota with genuine toyota motor oil and Toyota filters at under 5000 intervals. The vehicles are also not garaged in the winter. Thinking about installing block heater the coming winter.

It is dino oil, but its been severe hydroprocessed. But it's suppose to be one of the best grpIII oils out there as is Valvoline Synpower. Let us know how it runs!

No, Ist, its the 10W-30 PAO base meat-and-potatoes product. The dealer doesnt sell amsoil anymore so I just put some Valvoline grpIII/IV Synpower 10W-30 in for the meantime. I hear the Amsoil doesnt have API SM/SL certification.
On the grpIII - I just havent had any formula work well for me YET. And I jumped on that ISO syn bandwagon with the Chevron Process when it first came out. Good luck with the P-Platinum its had really good UOAs as has V-Synpower. It's just Mobil-1 that has high iron and Cu consistently and failes to meet its API certs down the road. Funny that Mobil Clean 5000 is a good sleeper Dino oil.

Isnt the K&N filter just a STP with a nut welded on the bottom? A company "Champion Labs" make the Bosch and Mobil-1 and K&N and Delco and most the no-name brands like Supertech for wallmart. That is a good deal you talk about, but I wouldnt pay over 10-$ for a 4$ filter with K&N's name on it. Just remeber Castrol Syntec is not real synthetic oil, It called group III severe hydroprocessed. If you want the real stuff you need Motul 300v, or Total Quartz Future 9000.

Amsoil does have API certification. Like I said, it's only on their XL series, which is API on every XL grade, and XL is ACEA A1/B1, and like I also said, it's group III. I posted the link from their site where it states they went group III to keep it competitive, pricewise, so they could offer API approved oil to the market. I think I did see a blue topped 10w30, and yes, it wasn't certified, and not group III, good for 25K, guessing A4/B4.

Ahh gotcha on the XL. I wasnt looking at the grpiii so I didnt read into it much. Here is a question I'm not fully clear on: Does Toyota warranty require API cert or is this just a recommendation/guidance? I'm assuming the emission warranty requires the use of low saps so you have to stay with an SL/SM rating. But certification IDK ....

It's all good bro! For the price, I still think is a good deal, specially, nowadays, that EVERYBODY or at least most people are doing everything to save a buck or two!

I thought it was pretty much common knowledge for the last 15 years or so that the oil had to be API approved, here in the U.S. ...and that's sort of been the problem at most of the forums I've been at over the last few years, a lot of people want to run the better oils, but they don't always have the API approval stamp on the front label.

Q-Horsepower. Not on the list, but qualifies for the highest spec in the EU. Can't remember the alphabet soup/number that was used, but its different from API and SAE ratings.
