Crossing 34K

So, I'm now crossing 34,000 miles.

I have 2K till the warranty is up.

Is there anything I should do, look for, anything ...

My car is STOCK, so I want to get any problems corrected before
it goes off warranty.

I want to do a stereo system soon, but I don't know what direction to go.

if u going to do mods now, then i would say no becoz the dealer is going to give u kak, also see if u need it, depends how u look after your car, also when the milage gets high the dealer would ask for a percentage, if u service your car at the dealer and keep your records safe, so when something happens u can claim from the customer care department, as good will,

1st thing whats the budget for the system, then look around what u can get for it, some wil give u more others will give u less, this is something u will be happy with or u wont, if u not sure do what we did when we were the same as you, look for a sound shop that takes trade in's, then u start and if u not happy they take what u have and change it for you, or do a upgrade, then u only pay in a small balance, u can do this until u happy with the sound, but once u start doing moulds for the doors and dash, please take your time as the can become expensive if u not happy with it, but good luck with this

Yeah I know how to choose and install everything for an aftermarket stereo, I just want to retain as much of the cargo space as possible.

Back in the day I built a 4 cubic foot box for 2 12" Pioneer subs and stuffed that in the trunk of my car. That was awesome, but I won't be going that route this time around.

Tempting, but still too big.

I'm leaning toward the small side of things. Might even try an 8" this time around.

As a fallback I do have an Alpine Type-R 10" in a sealed box that I can use. I don't have an amp installed yet, but once I do I'll try that box. It's just that there's not a lot of room in the back of the 3 door with the seats up. Even that smallish box will take up a lot of the space back there.

Double-check your coolant level and look for any dried coolant under the hood and near the pulleys. My water pump went out at 33K and it seems from what I've read, that is around the time a lot of them are going bad.

I know the level is fine, I just looked at it, but I'll look around the pulleys and watch out for that in the future.

I'm working on this dilemma too...damn compacts

so far the best idea I've come up with is axeing the spare tire and using the well space as a sub box and putting the amp under the driver seat.

I've also considered building 2 smaller pillars level with the back seat with subs pointed up, so I'd stll have storage and a spare...still can't make up my mind tho..

Yeah, you're having some similar thoughts to mine.

I thought about ditching the spare, but I'm hesitant to rely solely on fix-a-flat in a can. I just prefer to have a spare.

So, I don't know yet. I was thinking about that space beside the rear seats where the back speakers are. The DIY section shows that there's quite a bit of unused space in behind those panels. I haven't removed those panels yet, but it might be possible to utilize one or both sides for small subs.

Really? hadn't heard that before. I'll have to look at that. As a rule of thumb I'm trying to keep the subs facing upwards. Also trying to avoid having them facing any solid objects to avoid any possible sound degradation. The biggest issue I see with using the spare wheel well is all the flippin dynamat I'm going to have to use! The car already rattles like a mother lol

It's definitely a challenge to figure out where to install things in this car and still save space.

I want to do something that's fairly "stealth". No huge speaker box with neon lined amp racks or anything.

This is my first hatchback, so I'm just trying to come up with something that's a good balance of performance and practicality.

I'm used to having a trunk, so this is a different install than I've done before.

I'm shooting for the same thing. I'm really leaning towards dual subs in the actual hatch under the rear windshield with an expanded metal covering to keep them from being damaged and to downplay the look. I'd really try to replicate a huge OEM speaker cover to make it look stock. The factory acoustics in the car are already impressive, but with that that thing would HIT!!

OtownYaris, from reading on the forums, I would have to guess that less than 0.1% of yarii have water pump failures, and almost none of them have been completely stock *cough*

Sub placement - trunk faces the rear, hatches face up(I think, I know trunks are rear for sure)

That would be a real serious install with a LOT of labour.

That's the hard part for me. I'm trying to figure out a system that is SIMPLE, somewhat stealthy, fits logically into the car, and will sound great.

Oh ... and is cheap cuz I'm not rich.

Right now I have an amp under both front seats. One drives the components and one drives 2 12's. You would think the subs would sound better facing up, but my sony subs (don't laugh, yes they're sonys) sound better facing the rear. And yes, they take up the entire hatch area. I'm going to eventually get one higher powered 12" and mount it right above the spare in a custom enclosure so I have some room. I did use fatmat on everything behind the front seats minus the roof. With the subs facing up, I got some bad vibration from the rear window. It is possible to get some great sound in this car even with its size.

oh, and I do need a bigger alternator, Iraggi has a 180 amp one for $325 i believe shipped. That's down the road with my new sub and more fatmat though.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'll do 99% of the labor myself. Having an automotive shop handy definately helps, lol.
