The victims weren't 'not brave'...they were in a situation that had no protection. Apparently there were no armed police officers close and the campus probably didn't allow arms on the premisis...so there was no protection. At least on airplanes everyone is screened before boarding and hopefully there is an armed air marshall on board. I don't know the statistics but guns are harder to obtain, it seems to me, than they used to be, and violent shootings seem to be occuring more often??? Myself I would prefer honest law abiding citizens were allowed to have guns....if you have to be a criminal just to own a gun, you're already a bad guy.

I've used guns in the Army, the first gun I owned was puchased a just few years ago just before the government started requiring a life history, and I'm now 56....and I believe in everyones right to own a gun or not (until they are proven to be a criminal).

The students deserve our respect and sorrow....I only wish there had been a better system in place to protect them from a homicidal killer.

I'm sickened by the fact that the media is plastering the shooters mug all over the place, just as he intended. That asshole should have never graced a single website or gotten airtime at all. The police should have used it as evidence and that is it. Am I the only one who feels that he got the media to do exactly what he wanted in the wake of these murders and suicide?

I live in South Dakota, we have very low crime rates, we also have 20,000+ concealed weapons permits issued in this state. California only has 2 concealed weapons permits in the whole state. Compare crime rates and you will find our per/capita rates are significantly lower. Do criminals ask themselves if their victims or a nearby witness may be carrying a gun?

The fact is gun control will only regulate the guns owned by law abiding citizens, aka, the citizens who have the ability to prevent crime. In addition, we can't afford to start a "war on guns" as it will just become another innefective money pit just like the "war on drugs".

Some people, I agree, should not own guns, but how do you single that small percentage out? Apparently, a background check is worthless. I don't have a solution, but neither does anyone who supports gun control. It WON'T work!
