Lowering limitations?
Hello all :)
I currently have a MKIV VW and have a limit as to how far I can lower my car with the OEM front sway bar due to driveshaft clearance issues. I can swap the front bar for one that will allow a greater drop, but (A) I don't want to go lower with this car, and (B) I REALLY don't want to drop the subframe. I was wondering if there is a similar issue with the Yaris, in particular the hatchback. Thanx :) |

Hi!
|
if you don't find the answer here, take out your front springs and put your shocks/wheels/tires back on. then cycle your suspension. that'll tell you what hits first. =) i'm guessing your stock shocks will bottom out before you see any clearance issues.

I like the car, but it could really stand to be a LOT lower. Do any typical companies (Eibach, KYB, etc...) make shock and spring setups, or are coilovers the only way to go? |

No one makes performance shocks for this car?
Sorry, but I don't want to blow a grand on coilovers. |

only TRD struts at the moment
you can pick up a set of coilovers for about 875. shipped or you can spend 200. on springs and 319. on struts

do you drive a Yaris too..or just the MK4? ..which MK4 you drive? before my current GLi, i used to have '03 GTi and once i test fit my friend's H&R cup Kit, i couldn't remember the exact number..but i kno for sure it was more than 2.3 drop. the car looks so nice and felt more balanced in corners. i love it, but it's just too expensive. ..>>

The first thing to touch down on my car was the oil pan and front bumper (pretty much even)... the front subframe is also pretty low. You won't have any issues like on the VW and even on the VW you can just use longer (or adjustable) sway bar end links to increase the stock sway bar clearance.
Coming from a Euro you may be dissapointed with the conservative drop most of the Yaris parts offer. You will need to do some custom work or spend the $$ on some higher end co's if you're set on going low. |

I have a 20thAE GTI that I love so much. Unfortunately, it SERIOUSLY hates me. It treats me like shit no matter how good I am to it. I have startup issues, running issues (It is NOT chipped), incesant rattles, it just sucks. I wanted to grow old with this car and thats not going to happen. Indeed I am. Things go according to plan, I'll be getting one this weekend ;) I need what the Yaris has to offer at this point in my life. Sure I'm going to mod it a little, but nothing major whatsoever. |

hey I totally hear you on that, I gave up my VW for the Yaris and don't miss it one bit
whichever you decide , springs and trd struts or coilovers you will sure want them fast because I could hardly stand to drive mine stock either one is a huge improvement you just have the option of going lower than 1.9 with the coilovers and closing up that gap

I just drove my GTI and god do I love it...when its not being a PITA. But, that one time, everytime I drive it, that it hiccups or goes off boost for a split second makes the whole experience disappear instantly.
I think its going to be TRD struts with DF210s for me.

I had a MK4 Golf, I loved it but -problems- I let it go at 60000 because I was afraid it was going to fail any moment

I really love my MKIV. Such a great little platform (Seriously...little. A lowered Yaris is still taller than a MKIV) and the power delivery of the 1.8t is fantastic (Especially with the 6-speed). If only it was more...reliable... Its so upsetting to be discussing its dismisal, but I really feel like its the right choice.
